@flagswans2026 @andrew_whelan xScore is just a representation of a team's goal kicking accuracy. I don't think anyone is saying it impacts a game, it's just a statistical measure of the game

@AFLFrontOffice @andrew_whelan Yes, but that’s independent of xScore. If you miss a golden opportunity that impacts the game, xScore telling everyone you should have won by 5 goals after you just lost a game does not Coulda, woulda, shoulda, didn’t.

I didn’t watch last night’s game but I woke up this morning and read multiple articles and tweets about how a missed free kick on the wing cost Adelaide the win. Then I saw this. 🙄

@adampaps The players do get a disposal stat for thought and it doesn't count as a free against either, just like out on the full

A mistake last night but feels like the out of bounds rule has gone a bit too far. Should be a clear disposal for a lasso free kick not an incidental kick or last touch off a boot. I don’t believe a player gets a stat for a kick in that situation but does give away a free kick.

@MarkGottlieb Expected scores are overrated. Adelaide were in the game and an incorrect free kick was paid that resulted in a goal to Geelong. The only thing that’s relevant is the score at that moment. Geelong might still have won, but not because of xS.

The ARC appeared to intervene on this Q2 decision. Initially called a throw in, before the Crows won a free. The subsequent chain ended in a Rachele goal. But did they get it right? The AFL won’t be buying in, their threshold for clarification is late calls in tight games

Opening round is great and is helping grow the game, a twilight grand final could be fantastic and the MCG ticketing is a non issue to everyone outside Victoria. Not everything has to be just as it ever was. The game is no longer the VFL.
