Right now, every Missouri worker pays state income taxes on every paycheck. Amendment 5 is about ending that burden and creating a path to local property tax relief. This plan is responsible and sustainable. Let's get it done.

Vote NO on Missouri Amendment 5 Eliminating the state income tax sounds good, but Amendment 5 could give lawmakers broad authority to replace that revenue by taxing more goods and services. That means Missourians could end up paying higher taxes on everyday expenses such as vehicle repairs, home improvements, plumbing, electrical work, lawn care, professional services, delivery fees, streaming services, and other purchases that may not be taxed the same way today. The concern is not simply the elimination of the income tax. The concern is what replaces it. Once this authority is placed in the Constitution, future lawmakers could expand sales taxes without voters knowing in advance exactly which goods and services will be taxed or how high those taxes may become. A person may save money on state income taxes but lose those savings through higher taxes every time they repair a car, hire a contractor, replace an appliance, or pay for a needed service. Retirees, disabled veterans, and working families could be especially affected because they still must purchase these goods and services regardless of income. Missouri should not eliminate one tax without giving voters a complete and transparent replacement plan. Vote NO on Amendment 5 because lower income taxes should not become an open door to higher taxes on nearly everything we buy and use. Vote NO on Missouri Amendment 4 Amendment 4 would allow one congressional district to block a constitutional amendment even when a majority of Missouri voters approve it statewide. For example, a proposal could receive strong support across Missouri and win 60% of the statewide vote, but still fail because it received 49% in just one congressional district. That would give a minority of voters the power to override the decision of the statewide majority. Every voter should have an equal voice, regardless of whether they live in Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia, Springfield, Moberly, or a rural community. Constitutional amendments should be decided by the total number of Missouri voters—not by giving any single district an absolute veto. Vote NO on Amendment 4 to preserve majority rule and ensure that every Missouri vote counts equally.

Camellia Peterson with Americans for Prosperity Missouri supports Amendment 5, arguing the current system benefits the wealthy. "The wealthy who are able to take advantage of all of the income tax loopholes, they're not paying sales tax on a lot of the services and luxury items that they use," Peterson said. "So, this really spreads that burden out more and gives working Missourians a break and more money in their own pockets." kshb.com/news/local-new…

@kevintmccauley7 Google AI is pulling from leftist orgs that are not staffed by economists and have opposed every tax reform measure ever introduced in Missouri. Please remember that you always have to check the veracity of AI.

Frozen in time by special interests, Missouri’s current tax code falls heaviest on low income and working middle class Missourians. It’s time to make the system more fair and stop punishing work. Vote YES on Amendment 5 on August 4! #YESon5

Why would you keep a tax that punishes productivity? The income tax punishes work. A consumption tax lets you keep what you earn and decide when to spend it. Amendment 5 phases out Missouri's income tax. Yes.

I'm a hobby economist and a big fan of the fair tax. Stop taxing what people produce and let families keep more of their paycheck. Amendment 5 moves Missouri in exactly the right direction. Vote yes in August.
