If we are serious about building a foundation for growth, to compete rather than be complacent, then we must begin the work now to phase out and eliminate Missouri's individual income tax. But there's a lot of misinformation out there, so we're setting the record straight about HJRs 173 and 174.

On @PeteMundo’s show, @scottfaughn articulated something that is a huge part of why I believe we need to phase out the income tax now and get to zero soon. 👇🏼 “What do we leave in our kids? Because right now it is not a record of growth. Other people may not like this plan and I respect that. I would respectfully ask them… What do you want to do? And usually they don't have an answer. They want to slowly regress at a speed that doesn't hurt many people. And I say, yes, that's fine for a year, two years, three years. We've done it for 20 years in this state. We've slowly agreed to keep the status quo and not take any big chances. And we've slowly lost ground. And I can't imagine what my son, Gussie's son, will inherit.” Listen: omny.fm/shows/pete-mun… #moleg

Here we go again with the Missouri Budget Project. They ran this same playbook against tax cuts in 2013, were dead wrong then, and now they’re trying to sell the same recycled panic all over again. The Missouri Budget Project acted like letting people keep more of their own money would destroy civilization, but Missouri didn’t collapse, schools didn’t vanish, and the sky didn’t fall. They used Kansas as a scare tactic and pushed class-war politics to protect bigger government in 2013, now they are doing the same in 2026. @SpeakerTimJones @MOHouseGOP @MOSenateGOP #moleg @RGreggKeller @AFPMissouri @RareCamellia @garydhollis

🔌Missouri families are being squeezed by rising electric bills - and the government-protected utility monopoly have no competition. Competition creates accountability and keeps costs low. SB 1411/HB 2207/HB 2233 were filed to end the utility monopoly and the blank checks paid for by you to build power plants. 💡We're heading to the Capitol with the My Energy Choice organization. Will you join us? Stop the Rate Hikes. Break Up the Monopoly Tuesday, March 31 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Missouri State Capitol, Jefferson City RSVP: tinyurl.com/3yj639nz

I will never disagree that Missouri needs to cut spending, but the talking point being thrown around about MO having the same budget as Illinois is simply not true. MO has a GR budget of 14.9 billion. IL has a GR budget of 55 billion. MOs total spending is 55 billion, while IL is well over 200 billion. Again, get the chainsaw out and let's get back to pre-covid levels of spending, but also don't start your arguments with stats that simply aren't true. #moleg

If you claim to support checks and balances in our system then you simply cannot support Chevron Doctrine and must back the REINS Act (which is sweeping the states). If unelected agents can make laws with millions of dollars in economic impact without any lawmaker even reviewing them, and then the courts are told they must defer to the agents' own opinion on the legality of the law that is an actual oligarchy. South Carolina Republicans who aren't backing the regulatory reform bill to fix this are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Arkansas has a chance to pull ahead of our neighbors—but we can’t coast on past success. If we want to stay competitive, we need bold tax reform and a clear Pathway to Zero income tax. Kudos to our friends in MO for prioritizing letting folks keep what they earn. #arpx

Yep! HJR 173 eliminates the income tax through spending controls. It doesn’t raise/create/hike any tax anywhere. Nevertheless, opponents of income tax elimination in MO aren’t doing the math. If you eliminated all deductions and exemptions from the sales tax structure, you’d have more than enough revenue to fully replace the income tax. Tax loopholes increase rates. It’s astonishing how fast you can cut tax rates by creating fairer tax systems.
NilesStephens@NilesStephens

@RareCamellia @benKeath I checked my transactions for how many services I purchased in February that could be taxed, it wasn't much. The fear-mongering about Missouri closing every school and firing every police officer is much more credible.

Great event talking all things data centers in St. Charles with Rep. @Colinformo! Thank you, Rep. Wellenkamp, for being so transparent and thorough about the reality of where we are, the challenges we face with rapidly changing technology, and explaining legislation filed to address those challenges.
