@FreeFreetoxic Hello! You don't need to apply rule 1.3 (Sources Referring to Other Sources) to provide further citations of footnotes found in every paragraph you're citing, unless there is a particular source being cited/discussed that you want to draw attention to.

@AGLCTweets Hi AGLC4! If I reference a specific paragraph of a case, I footnote that case along with paragraph number and page number. However, if that paragraph does not contain in text references (other cases) but are in the footnotes, do I have to reference that too? Example:

@YeoLewis64127 One way of citing paragraph 2 of the appendix would be: 𝘎𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘷 𝘎𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵 [2024] AC 833, 917 [2]. Don’t forget to also identify the judicial officers to that pinpoint per r 24.1.6! [2/2]

@YeoLewis64127 Hi Lewis! The reported version should be cited where available (see r 24.1.2) cf the unreported version (UKSC). The reported version contains page numbers alongside paragraph numbers which are helpful for pinpointing. [1/2]

@AGLCTweets How would I go about citing an appendix to a UK case in the AGLC? My guess is: Guest and another v Guest [2022] UKSC 27 Appendix [2]

@DorrasWalker Hi Suki! We would cite it as such: 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, UN DOC A/CONF.151/26 (14 June 1992) ('𝘙𝘪𝘰 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯').

@chrisrudge Hi Chris! On this instance we would recommend combining rules 6.5 and 6.6 as such: [Author], ‘[Chapter Title]’ in Tanya Calvey (ed), 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘉𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 (Elsevier, 2018) vol 242, [Starting Page], [Pinpoint].

@rhodrykorb Hi! Apologies for the delayed response — the latter is correct, pursuant to r 3.1.4. As you rightly mention, where an Act uses a decimal numbering system (here, in the form of Chapter/Part), pinpoints should contain the whole of the decimal number.

@AGLCTweets How to cite Divs 1 & 2 of Chapter 2D Part 2D.1 of the Corprotations Act? Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) ch 2D pt 2D.1 divs 1-2 (the Act name being in italics) Or because of decimal numbering Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) pt 2D.1 divs 1-2 (the Act name being in italics)

👋 @AGLCTweets Rule 4.1.5 says: ‘When citing a judicial officer writing extra-curially, the judicial title should not be included unless it appears on the source.’ So, for this journal article, I’d cite the author as ‘Chief Justice Marilyn Warren’, as the journal does, yes?

@TonyVizza Hi! That Act should be cited in accordance with r 14.2.1 (European Union Materials — Official Journal of the European Union). A reference to a document of the European Union should include a citation to the Official Journal of the European Union where possible.

@MatthewRitchens Hi! If you wish to cite a source for which provision is not explicitly made in the AGLC, it may be helpful to analogise with existing rules. We would recommend using r 2.6.1 (Administrative Decisions) to guide your citation.

@AGLCTweets I've found some relevant material to source on Austlii however I can't find the material on any official case citator website in its current cited form. Can I still reference utilising this citation method?

@mitch_mishyy In 'How to Use This Guide' (p xi of the AGLC4), we explain how to cite sources not included in the AGLC. We hope this approach helps you with any future questions you have for sources not explicitly provided for in the AGLC! 2/2

@mitch_mishyy Hi! For sources not included in the AGLC, we would recommend analogising with existing rules. You could use r 7.1.1 (Reports and Similar Documents — General Rule). You can then pinpoint to the page and/or paragraph (depending on what is available). 1/2

@Choux66062200 Yes. Pursuant to r 14.3.2 (European Court of Human Rights), 'decisions of the Court not reported in Eur Court HR (ser A) or Eur Court HR should be cited in an unofficial report series where available'. If unavailable, then you should refer to the unreported version.

@brad_marz Hi Brad! If the decision is cited once, no short title is needed. If a short title is required for subsequent references, the short title should always be given as follows: (Complainant's Surname v Respondent State).

@AGLCTweets Hi AGLC! Hope you've all been well. I'm just seeking clarification on r 9.3.1. If a decision of a UN treaty committee is only cited once, should a short title still be included? The way the rule is written seems to suggest that one is 'always' given. Thank you!

@monika_dryburgh Hi Monika! ABS statistics/materials should be cited in accordance with r 7.1.5. Where a catalogue number is not readily available, you can omit that from the citation. You could replace the catalogue number with a more generic 'Document Type' pursuant to r 7.1.1 (General Rule).

@AGLCTweets 👋 🤔 Do I cite ABS statistics accessed online (eg #cite-window2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">abs.gov.au/statistics/peo…) according to r 7.1.5 on ABS Materials, or r 7.15 for Internet Materials? If 7.1.5, how do I work out what the ‘Catalogue No’ is? If 7.15, what should the web page title & document type be?
