But the horrors of artillery only begins there. Grape shot/canister shot - lots of tiny cannon balls fired at once. Chainshot - two pieces of shot on a chain. Fun! Red Hot Shot - super heated cannon ball! And sometimes you just shove random shit in there. Glass. Nails. Metal.

Exploding shells did exist, but their shorter range and somewhat unpredictable nature made them less useful than standard solid shot.

Typical cannon balls did not explode. They skipped across the ground, destroying everything in their path. And that's much worse. #history#cannons#war#artillery

@mattcolville 57 Vincent Black Lightning. I don't have any particular love for that song, it's alright. But it kept coming up while I was in a downer transition period in my life. So any time I hear it, I'll go back there. Funny how that works.

@mattcolville Now I have my fingers crossed in the vain hope of a Nolan directed Frank Lloyd Wright movie. Fits all his themes and it would be cool as hell.

Damn that was pretty good. I'm surprised, it might be the best Nolan film I've seen. I really didn't think he had it in him. I see why RDJ got the little gold man. The whole movie sort of hinges on his performance and it's sufficiently subtle throughout. Movie needs a villain!
