HIRING: DEPUTY CLERK Reporting to the Clerk/Deputy CAO, the Deputy Clerk provides overall administrative support to the Clerk’s Department. In the absence of the Clerk, this position performs the statutory duties of the Clerk as in defined in the Municipal Act.

In Algonquin Highlands, you can visit the Algonquin Highlands Fire Services stations in Stanhope, Dorset and Oxtongue Lake between 3 and 7 p.m. This a free, rain-or-shine event.

FIRST RESPONDERS DAY: First Responders Day returns to Haliburton County on Friday, May 1! This is a chance to visit fire halls and paramedic bases throughout the County, learn more about, and celebrate, local first responders!

ALGONQUIN HIGHLANDS VOTES: 2026 MUNICIPAL ELECTION Are you interested in running for Council? The Nomination Period for the October 26 municipal election begins May 1, 2026 and runs until 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.

AH WASTE DISPOSAL SITES WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE ACCORDING TO THEIR REGULAR HOURS on both Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6. Have a safe and happy long weekend!

EASTER WEEKEND HOURS: Please note the Algonquin Highlands Administrative Office will be closed on Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6 in observance of the Easter weekend. The Dorset Recreation Centre and the AH Trails Office will also be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Daytime burn permits are no longer issued in the Township of Algonquin Highlands. The operators of commercial operations who must conduct daytime burning are asked to contact Fire Chief Michael French at 705-489-2379, Ext. 343 or mfrench@algonquinhighlands.ca

Daytime burning is prohibited until November 1.

FIRE SEASON: A reminder the fire season begins on Wednesday, April 1, meaning that as a safety precaution, outdoor burning will be prohibited between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Burning during the fire season is permitted between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., unless a fire ban is in place.

Thanks to Algonquin Highlands Public Works Staff and municipal roads crews across the County for their work during the past couple of days!

Municipal workforces will continue to provide maintenance operations. The Township of Algonquin Highlands advises all drivers to please remain a safe distance back from maintenance equipment and drive according to conditions.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT: Please note the Declaration of a Significant Weather Event that was issued by the Township of Algonquin Highlands, the County of Haliburton and its other member municipalities on March 10, will officially be lifted as of 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12.
