For models this small, like Karpathy's microGPT, a consumer CPU in well-optimized C actually crushes purpose-built hardware. If you can distill a model small enough, you don't need specialized chips, and you definitely don't need to etch it into custom silicon. A regular CPU core using a fraction of its capacity will do the job (and outperform it by a couple of orders of magnitude). This can be really practical for physical AI/robotics edge use cases.

My M4 Max MacBook gets 3,756,165 tok/sec in pure C, compared to ~50,000 tok/sec with the FPGA. Try it yourself: github.com/AlexCheema/tal…

Kurzweil is back with a familiar claim: by 2029 we hit "longevity escape velocity." Life expectancy grows faster than you age. You start moving backwards on the clock. He might be directionally correct but it still won't matter the way he thinks. "Life expectancy" is a population statistic. "Longevity escape velocity" is a frontier capability. These are not the same things. Tuberculosis is curable and is the #1 infectious killer on earth. We have known how to prevent cardiovascular disease for decades and it's still the #1 killer, period. The bottleneck on lifespan has not been limited by "the tech" It's been access, cost, behavior, institutions, governments. And unless that changes, humanity is not going backwards in time. A small cohort of well-capitalized, well-diagnosed humans plugged into the frontier. Everyone else stays on the old curve.

Heading to the wild with @boydvarty and 4 of my close brothers for a week of lion tracking, silence, and deep reconnection 🌍🦁 3 years ago I was walking the streets of London, discovered a @tferriss podcast with Boyd, ordered *The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life* instantly and devoured it in 2 days 📖❤️ I started sending screenshots to a friend going through a difficult time. He read it, loved it, bought 10 copies and shared them across Abu Dhabi. The book then reached another close friend… who declared: “We’re all going on Boyd’s safari.” After months of calls and waiting lists (it was booked for years), we finally got our spot ✨ Now, 2 years later — we’re off. A week of nature, lion tracking, stillness, earth connection, and Boyd’s legendary wisdom. I’ll be open-sourcing everything I feel with the lions. Stay tuned 🔥

Celebrating 15 years of marriage today. The ultimate life hack is picking the right partner. Most of who you become is downstream of who you choose to marry.

This learning-augmented robot ran continuously for >5 hours on a live factory floor, soldering motor cables at sub-millimeter tolerance without a safety cage, next to human workers. >99% pass rate on quality control. And It was trained on less than 20 minutes of real-world data! The task it automated was previously done entirely by hand. It matched human speed while being more consistent. This sort of practical real world work is the kind that will look more important in hindsight than it does today.
Yunho Kim@awesomericky99

We present "hybrid system" that supplements conventional automation with "learning" for task & safety-level adaptiveness Deployed in factory for motor cable soldering (< 0.6 mm tolerance), resulting 108 motors, 99.4% SR with < 20 min data per task Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2604.22235

This is a helpful artifact: a public, end-to-end accounting of what shrinking a frontier robotics model actually costs. Haptic Labs got Pi0.5 from 16GB runtime memory down to 3.1GB (now fits on a Jetson Orin Nano), 2.8x faster. And they have published the compression recipe. Worth reading if you're trying to deploy AI on constrained hardware, or if you've ever wondered why reproducible papers still need dedicated ML/eng teams.
David Alves@dribeiroalves

Spent some time shrinking a real robot policy (pi0.5) down to fit on the smallest Jetson NVIDIA makes (the $249 Orin Nano). Was a ton of fun, and I learned a lot! Writeup below 👇

This is the google trends chart for Fraunces font, a relatively unknown font till about 2 weeks ago. Now I see it on almost all prototype websites & slide decks. And this serif will now serve as training data for the next wave of AI tools.

I have had the privilege of being in Semil's orbit for ~15 years. Semil & Haystack were our first check when we started Trusted. And he was a massive catalyst in helping me get Canonical off the ground. He is a true artisan of his craft and cares deeply about the people he works with. Huge congrats on the new funds!
Semil@semil

[brief update] we have a new set of funds for @haystackvc announcing haystack 8 plus more, but it's really about my teammates @aashaysanghvi_ & @DivyaDhulipala thank you to all of our frequent ecosystem co-conspirators, our LPs, our co-investors, our founders. i'm very grateful 🙏 and this is the most fun role in the world! semilshah.com/2026/04/26/new…
