This year, the US men’s football team has already made $13 million for reaching the knockout stages at the #FIFAWorldCup2022. Splitting that in half, female players will receive $6.5 million, which is already more than what they were awarded for winning the past two World Cups.

In #England, the Football Association banned women from playing on its football pitches in 1921. The ban lasted for 50 years. Until the ban, women’s football was as popular – if not more – as men’s game. During WWI, women took over many of men’s roles, including in sport.

In #Spain, women’s football was forbidden from 1935 until the Royal Spanish Football Federation acknowledged it in 1980. The first official match was organized in 1983.
