I think a lot of western progressives seem to believe that indigenous practices were more sustainable because of some inherent mystical balance with nature rather than existing as a result of indigenous modes of production

@ZaneExists @nymphie2x @melanchorus that’s one of my favorite things about language in general!! and many people have words that mean different things to them. since there’s not a direct translation, someone else who speaks spanish might have their own english word that they feel is the closest. it’s awesome!!

@ZaneExists @nymphie2x @melanchorus i don’t like to really put spanish words in the middle of sentences, but if someone asked me how my day was and it was so good that i couldn’t find another word, i’d respond with chirindongo because it’s just so unique of a word to me that nothing exactly captures the vibe lol

@ZaneExists @nymphie2x @melanchorus it’s an adjective!! the closest word in english to it imo is when you’d describe something as being “sweet”, like “dude going to the park is gonna be SWEET!” like really cool and exciting lol. it doesn’t get the vibe exaaactly right but imo it’s pretty close, so yeah like that

@nymphie2x @melanchorus or its when there’s a certain phrase in spanish that only makes sense in spanish. or if it’s a word that doesn’t have a true english counterpart like chirindongo. to me that word just doesn’t have an english counterpart that captures the essence imo lol

@melanchorus in my personal experience, it nots randomly dropping spanish words in the middle of a sentence. It’s more like switching every so often to say a sentence in the other language. Which more often than not is when they don’t know how to say a specific word in spanish

@melanchorus most of the people i know who do this in my family at least do it because sometimes they forget the words for things in english or it just sounds better / has a more accurate meaning in spanish. certain things in spanish cant be DIRECTLY translated and have the same meaning ykwim
