My new kindle arrived today and I need book recs for holiday. Ideally gripping thrillers and cutesy queer things, but open to anything.

When your profession is both ableist and racist, then it's easy to understand why they refuse to care about genocide and the mass disabling, starvation, and killing of Palestinian people. @AOTAInc @thewfot

Severe limb injuries are the leading cause of the need for rehabilitation, with an estimated 13,455 to 17,550 people requiring treatment for these injuries. Additionally, between 3,105 and 4,050 individuals have undergone limb amputations. @thewfot @WorldPhysio1951 @AOTAInc

Maybe it’s because of my cardiac arrest, but I don’t understand why patients get upset when I say their symptoms are due to aging. 95% of what I diagnose is because we get old. I always bring it up as delicately as possible, but like do you know how lucky you are? I see patients in their 80s and think, “man I hope I get there one day.” So many things in this world can kill you. You’ve beaten the odds. Honestly, congratulations, you’re old.

@Srikesavan I've been told that interviews have to be done the same way for fairness. So if the assumption is in person, and one person requests online for any reason then everyone has to be online. A case of mixing equity (opportunity to interview) and equality (keeping everyone the same)?

£2000... That is what it would approximately cost if a candidate has to fly to the UK to attend an Interview for a B5 or B6 position from India. That is if they can scramble together an application for a visa at short notice and mobilise the funds and get a visitor visa. Many of us in the volunteer space are being approached with increasing number of Internationally trained Physiotherapists @thecsp @cspbame asking why they were shortlisted, but not offered a remote interview option. I can understand if the trust/managers decided that they would only offer in-person interviews. But if someone living in another country is short listed, an email to indicate that its an in-person interview and there is no exception would be very useful. Or at least a timely response to an inquiry regarding this. When meetings that involve significant and life changing events happen online, what's the need for an interview to be in-person is a discussion for another day. Questions volunteers are grappling with are as follows and any insights will be helpful. - Is it a case of strictly following HR policy where everyone who deserves an interview is short listed irrespective of where they are from. Fair enough, but candidates dont want to be a statistic when they have no realistic chance of attending the interview. - Would it look good on WRES data if someone from a Global Majority background is short listed, knowing well that they have very little chance of attending? Please challenge me on this. At a time when the number of Internationally trained Physiotherapists on the HCPC register is going down and the number of those who applied for entry clearance with the home office is also going down, this is another barrier. Other barriers include mentioning previous NHS experience in essential criteria (Some have even mentioned NHS rotation experience). This is excluding an entire cohort of aspirants. A simple mention on the job advert that no sponsorships will be provided and the interview will only be held in-person would save aspirants a whole lot of time and will bring down the number of applicants. This will also save short listers time and effort. Now that would be too much of a simple solution wouldn't it?

As I work through some of that "early 50s, midlife crisis stuff," this quote resonates with how I've been feeling of late: "Before that, I believed what everybody else seems to believe: if you play the game well enough and long enough, eventually you get to stop playing and go do whatever you want. I played the game pretty well for a long time, and now it’s obvious to me that the reward for playing the game is more game. You just keep unlocking levels forever, and the levels don’t even get more interesting (“Ooh, this one is in space!”). It’s just the same thing over and over until you die. You don’t get out by winning; you get out by stopping." -@a_m_mastroianni #MedEd

The networks are doing *all* the heavy lifting keeping my @thecsp membership going, despite the csp's dismal response to the deaths Gaza. The proactive work this network has done is making waves and hopefully made a few think about more equitable healthcare .
