After murdering two women in 2005, Australian killer Malcolm Naden disappeared and spent nearly seven years as a fugitive. For several months, he hid inside Dubbo’s Western Plains Zoo while police were searching for him. He stole bananas meant for the elephants, slept in the roof cavity of a manager’s hut, and used coin-operated barbecues to cook his meals. When his food supply was cut off, he ripped the head off a Galápagos tortoise and ate its insides. Naden was eventually captured in 2012. He later pleaded guilty to 32 charges and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
