Our Housing Australia Future Fund, Build to Rent scheme and National Housing Accord are making a difference. But there’s more to do. We’re making sure property investor tax breaks can only be used to build new homes. And we’re creating a new fund to build the power, water and roads needed for more housing. Because every new home means more opportunity, more security, and more Australians getting the keys to a place of their own.

We’re building more homes right across the country, like these 100 new homes ready to go here in Prospect. But we know more supply is only part of the answer. That’s why we’re changing unfair tax breaks for investors to make the housing system better for first home buyers. And helping more Australians buy a home with just a 5% deposit. Because if you work hard and save, you should have a fair go at owning a home.

More homes = more affordable housing. That’s why we’re opening up this Defence site we no longer need in Hobart for up to 1000 new homes. But building more homes is only part of the plan. 5% deposits for first home buyers. More homes being built. And changes to housing tax breaks to make the system fairer. Because buying your first home shouldn’t feel impossible.

Nine months ago, these homes were still under construction. Now, 45 new social and affordable homes in Melbourne are ready for people to move into. We’re throwing everything we can at housing. 5% deposits for first home buyers. Fairer housing taxes. And more homes being built right across the country. Because everyone deserves a place to call home.

Last week, I met James at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He’s one of many children whose lives have been changed by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Tonight, we celebrated the people helping change and save young lives every day at MCRI. For 40 years, their work has given families hope in the hardest moments and given children the chance to live healthy, happy lives. That’s why I'm proud we're investing in the next generation of child health research at MCRI.
