2) I discovered Hoerner’s marker while exploring the cemetery this week. Lying next to him is his brother David, age 21, who died the previous year while a prisoner at Andersonville after serving in the 13th PA Cavalry. On this anniversary Thomas’ death, not forgotten.

1) On this day, April 2, 158 yrs ago in 1865, 19 year old Thomas Hoerner of South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, was one of 7 members of the 209th PA killed during the breakthrough at Petersburg. Hoerner is rests in the Mt Zion Cemetery at the intersections of Rt 74/174.
