FIDE Circuit 2026-27: Abdusattorov maintains the lead; Sindarov closes in ✨ The recently concluded FIDE Candidates and the European Individual Championship have considerably reshaped the upper echelon of the FIDE Circuit 2026-27. 🇺🇿 Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who has not played classical chess since early March, preserved his lead, but 🇺🇿 Javokhir Sindarov trails him by only 2.75 points following his triumph in Cyprus. The runner-up and third-place finisher of the point-heavy FIDE Candidates tournament – 🇳🇱 Anish Giri and 🇺🇸 Fabiano Caruana – as well as 🇨🇳 Wei Yi, have also entered the Circuit’s top 10. The FIDE Women’s Circuit 2026-27 also saw major shifts in the top layer, following the FIDE Women’s Candidates and the IV International Women’s Tournament in Uzbekistan. Dear Friends, the good news is that i am currently safe and everything is under control. Pneumonia and complications from it are not a joke, thank God i am doing much better now, and as the doctors said with the progress we are making, there will not be any impact on my general health. My expected time off chess will be from 4 to 7 weeks.

The match between my fellow Americans @HansMokeNiemann and @awonder676 is very exciting and i love the format, 2 short classical games a day, rated, winner takes it all! The tenacity of Hans is world class, while Awonder , by outplaying him is showing that he is capable of anything. I feel that the fact that it’s played in Paris , somehow brings chess back to the era of Cafe de la Regence , La Bourdonnais , Anderssen and Morphy. In an economy where 30 players are fighting for 10 invitational spots this is a way to go. Bravo!

I take the opportunity to offer my similar view, with a twist: using this short classical time control, I loved the format of WR Chess that I took part in, 16 players, 1 match per day, 4 days. You could easily imagine creating a circuit looking like the ATP tour, with 2-3 different tournaments in a week all around the world, 16-32 players in each. (and could easily envision a few grand slams lasting two weeks, with more players and some matches with 4 games/2 days) Every player from top 100 and more would have more opportunities to take part in those competitions (and closer to their home), and every game played would have something big at stake. Just my 2 cents!
