Something is fishy with this @GamecockBSB offense. Say what you want, but watching today’s game, I don’t think Monte had as much control over the offense as we thought. I know a coaching change can create momentum… but this offense looks like a fully engaged Monte Lee offense 🐔

@TheGinger0420 Powell is a Gamecock. He always will be a Gamecock. He has forgotten more baseball than 99.9% of the population will ever learn in our lifetimes. With all due respect, as a fan and alum, I want to see more than winning big at a D2 school on the résumé for the next head coach.

@ALyon_SC I don’t think that guy’s leaving Coastal, he is Coastal guy. Coastal is gonna do everything to keep that guy. He’s already proven he can get there with that team so why leave? Agree a lot of good candidates. How about Landon Powell

I just hope that with this coaching search we don't put all of our eggs in the Kevin Schnall basket. Plenty of good candidates out there.

As bad as Friday was, the turnaround the last two days have been remarkable. Could argue Carolina should've won the series, but that's neither here nor there. Parting ways from Mainieri rather than waiting until the end of the season was the right call, and that's evident.

Granted CCU has the more recent successes but the overall is still very much in our favor. CCU fans for us Gamecocks wanting your coach is actually a sign of respect we have for him and where Coastal is right now. So let's not get it all twisted.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a coaching situation here where it was more universally agreed that it just wasn’t working. The SEC is a different animal than it was 15 years ago but don’t let anyone convince you this won’t be a coveted job. Tradition, solid local recruiting footprint, a fan base that will absolutely be a difference-maker if you give them the slightest bit of hope. Unfortunately that hope had been drained and priority No. 1 for the next coach will be to re-instill it. Just as important as all that is that this admin has proved they’re willing to spend. No one can say PM didn’t have resources. That should go a long way with trying to attract the next coach.

John is on this as usual. @GamecockBSB is expected to part ways with HC Paul Mainieri. Monte Lee as interim HC would obviously make sense for now. Chris Lemonis is also out there and available. I would expect when the dust settles, Kevin Schnall is and should be Target 1.

Terry Rooney should be trespassed from Founders Park. **In 7 innings** we threw 6 pitchers that gave up a combined 12 walks, 6 home runs, 2 doubles, and 14 hits. 216 pitches with 106 balls!!! That’s the worst stat line I’ve ever seen. And this was only a 7 inning affair. Thank god it’s over. It is inexcusable to have 6 pitchers on an SEC staff on a Friday night in league play that combined can’t even break 51% strikes thrown in 216 pitches. Worst pitching performance I’ve ever seen in any Carolina baseball game in my life. In no world can this staff be permitted to finish the season. I don’t know what the answers are with having interims or who they’d be, but Mr. Sam would be a better option than PM and TR.

I've been in the camp of waiting until the end of the season to move on from Mainieri (or forcing retirement), but honestly that conversation probably needs to happen Sunday or Monday. Give Monte a shot as the interim and go from there.

@Frady_180 I'm not saying Monte would kill it. I'm saying it would be administrative malpractice if Paul Mainieri is your head baseball coach beyond Monday afternoon. Sure as heck wouldn't let Rooney be the interim head coach.

@TurnDogEnjoyer I can sympathize with your worry because I don't think Monte Lee is the answer. We have a contingent of Gamecock fans that have a hard time looking past emotional connections to players and coaches who have been here. At the same time, these performances can't continue.

Succession plan didn't work out. Hired a guy who was an objectively good coach, but not good enough for this job. Hired a friend who is a HOF, but identity is largely from a bygone era of college sports. Good thing that same guy doesn't get to make the next hire.

Gamecocks get dominated. Paul Mainieri is now 0-13 in Game 3 in any series against a power conference team at Carolina and has gotten blown out in the vast majority of them. Carolina is 12-9 and 0-3 and cannot score runs.

Only once in the history of the program have they gone scoreless in three straight 9-inning games in the same season: That took place back in 1919 when they lost 9-0 and 4-0 to Trinity in a doubleheader, and 1-0 to Wofford six days later.

Took the liberty of looking this up: The last time South Carolina's baseball team was shutout in consecutive 9-inning games was against Miami on April 2nd and 3rd of the 1980 season where they lost 9-0 and 5-0, respectively.
