Kyle Schwarber of the @Phillies is the first MLB player to have a day with:
5+ hits
3+ walks
2+ doubles
2+ homers
0 strikeouts
...since Lou Gehrig on August 26, 1935 (also in a doubleheader).
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 faced two decent line ups. every other offense has been bad. ok against the Yankees and the Astros ran him out of the building. Enjoy your 5 game sample that you so desperately hang onto. I’ll hang onto his 5.30 era over his career as my evidence of what he is.
Learn ball kid.
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 We've had this discussion. Command doesn't only pertain to walks. It has to do with effectively utilizing his pitches, which he is.
You gotta learn sometime, I'm here to help.
No, advanced metrics are for people who don't understand baseball, to feel a part of the pack.
It's really a shame the Angels have such an awful bullpen, because this team would likely have a pretty solid season of the bullpen was decent.
Go Halos 😇
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 4-5 walks in half his starts is showing improvement in command 😂 advance metrics are there to help people like yourself with very basic takes. Might be a little too advanced for you though. Thats what your responses tell me. 4 out of his 6 starts against bottom of the pack teams
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 Translation: "I cite advanced metrics because I don't know how to watch a baseball game and comprehend what I'm watching".
People who understand baseball:
A ground ball pitcher inducing the 3rd most ground balls in the game and showing clear improvement of command.
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 His walk rate, his xERA, the exit velo against, his lack of strikeouts. Just to name a few. 6 starts in total and 4 walks in two of those along with 5 walks in another. Carry on
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 I'm not getting excited over 5 game sample sizes. I'm excited because his command is significantly different than it was last year, big improvement...you're failing to see that, which is why you are whiffing on every point you make.
"But, but, but, his walk rate!" 🥴
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 My knowledge is rough? You’re the one getting excited over a 5 game samples against a few of the worst lines ups in baseball. I think you need to learn ball
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 Hard hit balls don't matter if they're on the ground. His game is to force ground balls, don't be an exit velo guy, they're the worst
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 I have including the game against Toronto where the blue jays had 12 hard hit balls against him including 7 over 100 mph. the defense saved him that day. He’s been fortunate and decent against bad teams if you actually watched him
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 I did say slightly. Nonetheless, if you've actually watched him pitch this year, you know and understand he's been very good this year.
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 Command isn't exclusive to throwing strikes, his walk rate is slightly down from last year, also.
When he missed last year, he's miss up in the zone and over the plate, which is when he got hit hard.
Now he's missing down in the zone which is bolstering his effectiveness.
@DerekBowe7@Johnnyxlayer88 Gets lots of ground balls I can’t deny that. His walk rate is up a percentage from last year I don’t know how that signifies an improvement
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 If you have watched him extensively, his only issues were his command last year.
He's clearly corrected his command issues this season. He's a ground ball pitcher who has forced the 3rd most ground balls in the league.
@AM7one4@Johnnyxlayer88 Imagine a world where pitchers, young ones especially improve from year to year.
Mindblowing to wrap your head around, I know.... 🙄
