@AMB_Affey stands as a source of pride for the Horn of Africa, a statesman whose life’s work has been defined by service, principle, and an unwavering belief in human dignity. From championing refugee rights and amplifying their voices across New York, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Geneva, to shaping policy at the highest levels as a former Member of Parliament, Minister, and Diplomat, he has earned a distinguished place in Somalia’s long and determined journey toward renewal. His contributions are not merely chapters of a career, but milestones in a collective national rebuilding-where perseverance meets purpose, and leadership meets responsibility. It was a profound honor to spend time with him and gain insight into his forthcoming book, Badigoobka Nabadda, ahead of its launch in Mogadishu on 12th of Febuary 2026 at Somali National University, a work that reflects not only a search for peace, but a lifelong commitment to it.

It was both honour and privilege for me to meet Hon Ambassador @AMB_Affey today. I want to thank him for the gift of his book that will go along way in boosting my understanding of diplomacy & the geopolitics of the Horn of Africa.

Last Night, we celebrate a remarkable milestone in leadership, diplomacy & the pursuit of #peace. Amb. Mohamed A. Affey, distinguished Envoy, former Deputy Minister & Frm MP for Wajir South, has officially launched his powerful memoir “The Search for Peace in the Horn of Africa” This book opens a window into his extraordinary journey: leading early Somali peace processes, guiding state-building efforts, and carrying, with humility, a burden many would shy away from. Ambassador Affey stands as one of #Kenya’s most consequential envoys to Somalia. For twenty years, I watched, a calm force in turbulent times, a bridge-builder with the rare ability to bring to the table leaders who once saw each other only as adversaries. As I have read it, between these pages lies the jubilation, the heartbreak, the setbacks, and the triumphs of a region longing for stability. It is a story of resilience, courage, commitment and an unshakeable dignity and belief that peace is always possible. We are profoundly grateful for his selfless dedication to #Somalia during its most desperate hours and hope was hardest to find. Though he is a Kenyan national figure, his service transcends borders — he is a treasure for the entire East and Horn #Africa region.
