1 in 5 tuberculosis (TB) cases in the European Region still go undiagnosed or unreported, while drug-resistant TB rates remain far above the global average – up to 7 times.
These are among the key findings of the joint WHO/Europe–ECDC surveillance report.
Yet there is also progress to build on: since 2015, TB incidence has fallen by 39% and deaths by 49%.
In the words of this year’s World TB Day theme, yes, we can end TB – led by countries and powered by people. How? By investing in rapid diagnosis, shorter all-oral treatment regimens and stronger follow-up to reach more people earlier and improve outcomes – moving faster and sustaining momentum.
