Dear The New Arab, “Qatar-based Fadaat Media outlet” #Qatar #TheNewArab We are proud AMERICAN Muslims. Period. "The New Arab" has published another predictable critique of Muslim voices who dare to think independently, oppose #BDS, build bridges with #Israelis, and work toward Arab-Israeli peace. Apparently, according to some people, if you are Muslim, you are not allowed to think for yourself. You are not allowed to think outside the box. You are not allowed to meet Israelis, speak with Jews, visit the Holy Land, oppose boycotts, or believe that peace is better than permanent hatred. Let me be very clear: #AMMWEC does not need permission from ideological gatekeepers to stand against antisemitism. We do not need permission to build Muslim-Jewish-Christian partnerships. We do not need permission to say that BDS hurts coexistence, demonizes Israel, and makes peace harder, not easier. Muslims are not a monolith. We are allowed to support Palestinians and still reject antisemitism and antizionism. We are allowed to care about Muslim dignity and still stand with the Jewish people and the only Jewish state of Israel, which Allah Tabrakwataala gave to them in the Quran. We are allowed to criticize extremism, Islamism, and anti-American hatred without being smeared as somehow “less Muslim.” The real issue is not that Muslim women and Muslim leaders are standing with Israel, Jews, and interfaith allies. The real issue is that some media outlets and activist circles cannot tolerate Muslims who refuse to stay inside the political box they built for us. AMMWEC will continue to stand for peace, religious freedom, Abrahamic unity, and moral courage. We will continue to bring Muslims to Israel to see the truth with their own eyes. We will continue to oppose hate, whether it comes from the far left, the far right, Islamists, or anyone else. Peace is not betrayal. Dialogue is not betrayal.
