I made remarks at the Anti-Corruption Seminar for Supreme Audit Institutions and Anti-Corruption Agencies in Sandton, Johannesburg. Held under the theme “Collaborative Governance: Leading the Fight Against Corruption in Africa for Improved Foreign Direct Investment (FDI),” the seminar highlighted the critical role of partnerships in strengthening accountability systems and fostering investor confidence across the continent. The fight against corruption requires collective action—bringing together institutions, governments, and stakeholders to build transparent, resilient systems that support sustainable development. Together, we can shape an Africa where integrity drives growth and opportunity for all.

Spot on, Natasha! The 'intentional' part is so key. Such a powerful reminder that excellence is built, not born. It’s inspiring to see you embracing the process with so much patience and grace. The legal world needs more practitioners who value depth over speed, Like you. Keep it up

The early years in the legal profession require patience, learning relentlessly, observing closely and applying a full range of skills;legal, analytical and interpersonal. Remembering that long term excellence is developed and not rushed and mastery comes with time and intention.

Today's discussion on the role of affirmative action seats in Uganda reminded me: inclusion doesn’t happen by accident — it takes intent, advocacy, and accountability but above all is integrity which then enables us to be transformative Leaders and impact people that we lead.

On Tuesday this week, our Co-Founder @n_umutesi joined key stakeholders at the launch of a groundbreaking report on spyware and surveillance threatening civil society, human rights defenders (HRDs), and journalists across East and Southern Africa. The report, spearheaded by @UnwantedWitness and partners, highlights the growing weaponization of surveillance and spyware technologies to target and undermine civil society actors, restrict freedoms, and shrink democratic space in the region. 🔍 Key findings include Deployment of spyware and surveillance tools raises serious legal and ethical concerns, particularly around: The right to privacy and data protection Abuse of cybersecurity and anti-terrorism laws Lack of due process and legal remedies Disproportionate targeting of vulnerable groups Violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms Lack of transparency and informed consent The chilling effect on freedom of expression and association Case studies in the report reveal that spyware is increasingly being used as a tool of repression, creating an environment of fear, intimidation, and self-censorship among CSOs, HRDs, and independent journalists. 📌 Key Recommendations Reform surveillance laws to meet international human rights standards. Clearly define surveillance practices in law. 🤝 We stand in solidarity with @UnwantedWitness Witness and all partners in calling for greater transparency, accountability, and protection of digital rights in the region.
