Our study found that the COVID-19 pandemic made a bad situation worse for women workers in the hotel industry. Our governments have an obligation to protect workers. We propose four steps as a starting point:
IRPP@IRPP

Hotel workers are still waiting for their economic recovery from COVID-19. @AMuragz, @juliaheather, & @UniteHere40 explain that despite industry revenues surpassing 2019 levels, workers face heavier workloads, low wages, safety issues, and job insecurity. policyoptions.irpp.org/?p=113934

This piece demonstrates how well-meaning policies can perpetuate inequities. With the recent announcement of PR on arrival for migrant care workers, we need to ensure the promise is not broken & workers do not fall through the cracks. More on the MCWP- understandingprecarity.ca/mcwp/

A must read 🧵 on the ongoing impacts of pandemic policies are women's economic security 👇 (p.s. proud to have contribute in a small way to research with hotel workers)
Katherine Scott @kjscott.bsky.social@ScottKatherineJ

COVID-19 wiped out 35 yrs of women’s economic gains in 2 short months. My new report looks at women’s experiences over the last 4 years. The recovery has been as unequal as the pandemic itself. A 🧵1/10 @ccpa bit.ly/4b4Jrvi

For six months, 2.3 million Palestinians inside the Gaza Strip have been living through a brutal war. The indiscriminate bombing has killed over 30,000 people, and there is no food, fuel, or medical supplies. There must be a #CeasefireNOW, which is the answer.

Migrant care workers should not be driven into legal precarity because of structural barriers. They take care of Canadian families and play an important role in our economy. nwmd.io/s/twitter/Zx85…
