I strongly condemn Saturday’s attack on @UNIFIL_ during which one French peacekeeper was killed & another three were injured. I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends & colleagues of the fallen peacekeeper, and wish a full & fast recovery to the injured peacekeepers. This is the third incident in recent weeks to have resulted in the deaths of peacekeepers serving in Lebanon. These attacks must stop. All actors must respect the cessation of hostilities & the ceasefire.

When the law of force replaces the force of law, instability becomes contagious, conflicts spill over & economic shocks reverberate around the world. More than ever, we must reject a future ruled by coercion & embrace a future rooted in the @UN Charter & international law.

In an increasingly multipolar world, we must choose a future governed by the rule of law, not driven by raw power. Let’s strengthen a world governed by justice, recommit to the peaceful settlement of disputes, respect the judgments of the @CIJ_ICJ & uphold the principles of the @UN Charter.

I welcome Iran’s announcements that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open for all commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire. This a step in the right direction. The @UN position remains clear: we need the full restoration of international navigational rights & freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, respected by everyone. I also hope that, together with the ceasefire, this measure will contribute to creating confidence between the parties and strengthen the ongoing dialogue facilitated by Pakistan.

Over 8 decades, the @CIJ_ICJ's judgments & advisory opinions have shaped the modern world. This Court continues to be a guarantor that sovereignty & equality are not mere words on paper – a reminder that even overwhelming strength cannot, and must not, replace legal obligation.

I welcome the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel & Lebanon, and commend the role of the US in facilitating it. I hope this will pave the way for negotiations towards a long-term solution to the conflict & contribute to ongoing efforts toward a lasting & comprehensive peace in the region. I urge everyone to fully respect the ceasefire and to comply with international law at all times.

In a world marked by widening geopolitical divisions, economic strain & persistent insecurity – we must reaffirm international law & the foundations we need going forward: Dialogue over confrontation. Obligation over expedience. And the force of law over the law of force.

Wednesday marks 3 years of war in Sudan. Nearly 34 million people now need humanitarian assistance, more than 4.5 million have been forced to flee across borders. This nightmare must end. We need an immediate cessation of hostilities & a credible path toward an inclusive, civilian-led political process that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

In a world moving toward greater fragmentation & sharper power competition, international law is indispensable. Without it, instability spreads, mistrust deepens & conflicts spiral out of control. This applies everywhere – and it applies urgently to the conflict in the Middle East.

International law applies to all States, without exception. Respect for its rules is not optional. Without it, instability spreads, mistrust deepens & conflicts spiral out of control. This is not the moment to retreat from international law. It is the moment to reaffirm it.

There is no military solution to the crisis in the Middle East. Serious negotiations must resume. The ceasefire must be preserved – and extended as necessary. And international navigational rights & freedoms – including in the Strait of Hormuz – must be respected by all parties.

After weeks of destruction & distress, it is clear that there is no military solution to the current conflict in the Middle East. I call for resumption of talks for an agreement to be reached. The ceasfire must absolutely be preserved. All violations must cease. All parties to the conflict must respect the freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with international law.

I unequivocally condemn the massive strikes by Israel across Lebanon on 8 April that resulted in hundreds of civilians being killed & injured, including children. With the announcement of the ceasefire between Iran & the USA, the ongoing military activity in Lebanon poses a grave risk to the ceasefire & the efforts toward a lasting & comprehensive peace in the region. Hostilities must stop immediately. International law must be respected. Civilians & civilian objects must be protected at all times. Attacks against them are unacceptable. There is no military objective that justifies the wholesale destruction of a society's infrastructure or the deliberate infliction of suffering on civilian populations.

On the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda, we mourn the victims & pay tribute to the survivors. We must learn from past failures & protect the living — by rejecting hatred, inflammatory rhetoric & incitement to violence.
