Amid the World Cup spotlight, one of the most significant moves for the future of the USMNT may have gone under the radar this summer.
Twenty-year-old Diego Kochen has joined Danish side Lyngby on loan from Barcelona, with an option to make the move permanent.
After spending last season on the fringes of Barcelona’s first team — making several matchday squads but still waiting for meaningful minutes — Kochen now has his first real opportunity to play regularly at the professional level (excluding his appearances for Barcelona B in Spain’s lower divisions).
For many U.S. fans, he is considered one of the brightest goalkeeping prospects in recent years. His distribution and shot-stopping ability have earned strong praise throughout Barcelona’s academy, and he fits the modern profile demanded of top-level goalkeepers.
However, potential alone is not enough.
This is the biggest test of his career so far: earning a starting role, delivering consistent performances, and proving himself outside Barcelona’s system.
If he succeeds, this could mark the first real step toward making a case for the USMNT’s No. 1 spot in the years ahead.
It is a major opportunity — and one worth following closely.

The New England Revolution are set to re-sign USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner from Lyon.
The agreement is expected to be another loan deal and will include a purchase option.
Unlike his previous loan, Turner will not occupy a Designated Player slot, giving NE added roster flexibility as the club continues to shape its squad during the summer transfer window.

🚨 Cole Campbell to SV Elversberg is done deal. ✔️🇺🇸
A full agreement has been reached with Borussia Dortmund over a permanent transfer for Campbell. Dortmund have secured a buy-back clause for him. A contract is planned until 2030.
Medical exams are scheduled for this week.

There’s no way to describe this feeling.
We wanted so much more.
We let ourselves down but we won’t let this define us.
We dreamed of giving our country something special, and we came up short. To every fan who believed in us from day one, thank you. Your support never went unnoticed. We’ll carry this pain with us, learn from it and come back stronger than ever. This badge deserves nothing less. 🇺🇸

If you’re a casual USMNT fan sticking around after the World Cup, here’s what’s next:
CONCACAF Nations League: starts in September 2026. Our lowest-prestige competitive matches, matters for Gold Cup qualifying.
Gold Cup: 2027. The regional trophy. The US should absolutely be trying to win this.
World Cup qualifying: starts in 2027 for the 2030 cycle. This is the road back to the World Cup.
Copa América: 2028. It’s South America’s championship; the US sometimes participates when CONMEBOL invites CONCACAF teams. No guarantee we get invited but a chance to redeem ourselves if we do.

Good job @ussoccer lawyers.
"'A legal appeal was sent to FIFA,' the source said. 'They wanted to avoid CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). The CAS legal was ready to go.' In the end, the Balogun case never reached any legal stage...because FIFA blinked" nypost.com/2026/07/05/spo…
