In 5 months , Gambia record 5 suicide case . Yesterday, we lost another teenage girl. 17yrs May her soul rest in peace ☮️.

As we continue our consultations in amending the law to Decriminalize suicide in the Gambia and develop a comprehensive National suicide prevention strategy. I meet Parliament member Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah today . He affirm his commitment and support to see the law is amend.

“Creating hope through action.” I had the opportunity to meet with the head of Africa Project Against Suicide_ 🇬🇲. We had a fruitful discussion on the need to work with government to have a National Prevention Suicide Strategy & other relevant issues concerning mental health.

The stigma is climbing on me each day a bit more. I decided to be open about my experiences with psychosis a couple of years ago, and since then feel the need to prove that I am worth it, in all aspects of my life. I don’t know whether I can sustain my path of openness for a long run. It is very very difficult. As a result I work even harder, terrified of making any mistake. Scared that I will be punished for my over-sharing. What to do? Keep posting or stay silent? #bipolar #psychosis #academia #stigma

Use of stigmatizing words when talking about individuals living with mental health challenges, is dehumanizing and degrading. Non-stigmatizing person-first language, focuses on the individual, not the diagnosis. You are not your diagnosis. You are so much more. #StopSuicide

There are huge challenges on the path to recovery, and everyone’s journey is different. The one constant is that recovery will push you to tap into strength within yourself that you never knew existed, as you build resiliency muscle. Keep pushing. You’ve got this. #StopSuicide

Just be there , kind and caring

If your life were a movie, would it be a drama? A comedy? Maybe a thriller or a horror flick? Would you change the channel because you already know the ending. It’s your life. If you don’t like the script, let’s change it and create an ending you can live with. #StopSuicide

Congratulations to our partner International Voluntary Mental Health Organisation for opening the first voluntary mental health and wellness centre in the Gambia 🇬🇲 The Center will provide counselling, psycho education services etc

If you’ve ever lost someone to suicide, it’s easy to blame yourself. You may think, if you’d been a better husband, wife, parent, etc., your loved one might still be here. But it wasn’t your fault. You did the best you could with the information you had at the time. #StopSuicide

This week there was an incredible Christmas Fair in Yorkshire where 50 brands came together to raise funds for Suicide&Co! Our Ambassador Jess had great conversations, raised awareness of our services, and sold our merchandise to fundraise! Thank you to those who took part!
