The Deep Depression (remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, along with the North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts, remained nearly stationary for the past six hours. As of 1730 hrs IST today, 01 December 2025, it was located near 13.0°N and 80.6°E, about 50 km east of Chennai, 140 km northeast of Puducherry, 160 km north-northeast of Cuddalore, and 170 km south-southeast of Nellore. The system’s centre is approximately 35 km from the North Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coastline. It is expected to drift slowly northwards, moving parallel to the North Tamil Nadu–South Andhra Pradesh coasts, and maintain its intensity as a deep depression for the next six hours. Subsequently, while continuing its slow northward movement, it is likely to weaken into a depression in the following 12 hours. Around midnight today (01 December), the system is forecast to be positioned over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, at a minimum distance of about 30 km from the Chennai coast.

Forecast Discussion: Tropical Cyclone 05B is expected to move slowly poleward along the western edge of the low-level subtropical ridge (STR) positioned to its east and northeast. Around TAU 96, the cyclone is likely to turn northeast as it reaches the northwest periphery of the STR and approaches a break in the ridge. Because the system will remain close to the Sri Lanka coast and just east of southeastern India, only gradual intensification is expected through TAU 48. Beyond that point, upper-level conditions are forecast to deteriorate, with strengthening southerly flow and strong vertical wind shear (25–30 knots) linked to a deep upper-level trough extending into the Arabian Sea and India. Under these increasingly hostile conditions, the system is likely to dissipate near TAU 96 as strong southwesterly flow dominates aloft. Model Discussion: Deterministic model guidance shows good agreement on a poleward track up to TAU 72, with uncertainty increasing beyond that time. The 270600Z GEFS and EPS ensembles indicate substantial spread throughout the forecast period, though most members still support a generally poleward track to the east of the southeast India coast. Reliable intensity guidance is fairly consistent and aligns with the JTWC forecast, supporting the projected intensity trend with medium confidence.

Rains for western suburbs and western part for City. Storms will weaken once entering the city. Not all parts of city will get rains. This will be a short spell. ---------------------- The gust front from Tirupathi belt have reached Chennai City . Western Suburbs of Chennai and Western part of city might get some light rains as the storms will weaken moving into city Rare storms -------------- In my 20 years of tracking storms. Chennai has very rarely got two days of thunderstorms in the month of May that too in gap of 3 days, as storms normally struggle to cross the sea. This is very very rare indeed. Anna Nagar has got two days of rains now in space of 3 days. Cant believe this is happening in may month . This month will be unique with hot day, then rains, then hot day then rains. This will be the pattern. Today good rains happened in Madurai, Sivagangai, Trichy, Pudukottai, Virudhunagar belts. Tiruppur district also good spells.
