Who’d have thought my support for UK’s Online Safety Act would attract so many anonymous warriors who •dismiss online abuse by being abusive online •champion freedom of speech except for those who disagree with them •think protections for children will put children at risk?

Reminder of how hard Xmas can be for those who have lost someone to suicide. Some of whom have campaigned & transformed public understanding. To them & so many bereaved families, a peaceful Xmas & a hopeful 2025.

#Suicideprevention themes in 2024 that will matter in 2025: •why did suicide rate rise, as reported by ONS? •is media coverage of online risks helping or harmful? •how to stop #AssistedDying debate undermining prevention •can data from campaigners be trusted?

Not everything benefits from being highlighted in the media. It’s important not to make new suicide methods better known, to tackle them under the radar. Even if it looks like nothing is being done. It’s an area of top priority for the national #SuicidePrevention strategy.

Reminder that speculation about a cause of death can be harmful, causing distress & adding to risk in people already vulnerable. And it is often wrong.
