I don't personally think it's hard, but there are quite a few things that would make people perceive it to be a hard game and would not even give it a try as a result.
The first example that you lose everything when you die.
Another example that you need to play PVP in this game
And then there is the fact that the game doesn't really hand hold so someone who is already skeptical may not put in the hour or two needed to get past the skill curve and give up?
So I think it's more of a mental thing than the game actually being hard, and in many ways it's more friendly the people who don't have a clan or pre-made group then even Destiny 2 is. People just have to get past the mental barrier that the loot they get is probably going to get stolen at some point and this game isn't about hoarding loot. Which might be part of the issue as that is pretty much what Destiny 2 is

But, one segment of the critics want an easier game w/ carebear mode using the Marathon IP.
Another segment wanted Destiny 3 instead.
A 3rd segment don't like that a trans person is one of the devs.

I am wondering the same about you. The game is advertised and designed as a "team-based extraction shooter," so obviously as that is the genre of game you have to interact with other players on a team. But, you don't need to have clan or even friends, jumping in by yourself the matchmaking is far more solo-friendly than Destiny 2's is when looking at what percentage of content you are able to play without a premade team. A huge amount of Destiny 2's content requires a premade team and doesn't have matchmaking - dungeons, raids, some exotic missions, etc. On the other hand, nearly all of Marathon's content has matchmaking and can be done without prior coordination.

@SimonBCritical @MayorReynoldsTV So in this sense, Marathon is actually functionally *more* friendly to solo casuals than even Destiny 2. It may be mentally less friendly, e.g. you are afraid to play solo - but the matchmaking mechanics work great for solo casuals for nearly all content. So get over the fear.

Other than cryo you can do pretty much everything in marathon as a solo in pickup group and have a shot of getting good stuff. Destiny 2 tons of content locked behind 3-6 players

My understanding is that the individual components can still be foreign made, but if any other leg of the chain is foreign, it requires DHS approval for each model
Also note USA companies will likely ditch existing models and replace with full USA chain so they don't need to get approval for firmware updates

Almost none right now, but the companies that are based in the USA and complete design in USA will have a much easier time than competitors going forward - they will just need to switch manufacturing to USA.
Also take note - after February 2027, manufacturers will need to get firmware updates approved by DHS for even existing devices. Meaning if you have TPLink or other China brand that might have difficulty getting approval, all router firmware updates will stop by March 2027
