India's population growth began to slow down in the 1980s, primarily driven by falling birth rates. As a result, the number of babies born every year in India began to fall from the early 2000s. At its peak at the beginning of the millennium, roughly 30 million babies were born every year in India. Now, fewer than 23 million babies are born each year, and this number is projected to continue to decline. This has led to a sharp decline in India’s child population, which in demographic terms is defined as the population aged 0–14 years. At its peak in 2010, India had nearly 390 million children between the ages of 0 and 14, out of a population of 1.24 billion people. India’s child population is now down to 354 million, lower than the number of 15–29-year-olds, and nearly the same as the population of 30–44-year-olds. Despite large differences in the socio-economic and demographic conditions of Indian states, the decline in the child population is taking place across the country. What do these shifts mean for India’s demographic dividend? Read @Rukmini's piece to find out: dataforindia.com/demographic-di… #Births #Deaths #Fertility #Population #India #DataForIndia

FC Bayern, Leverkusen, Liverpool and Manchester City have all enquired about Monaco winger Eliesse Ben Seghir (20) in recent months. The Moroccan international does not have the best of relationships with coach Adi Hütter and a summer departure is not ruled out from the player's side. Ben Seghir's value is estimated at €30m [@EmeryTaisne, @lequipe]
