2/3 Worst case scenario: Comparing a 10 a day smoker (10 puffs per cigarette) and a 300 puff a-day vaper using recalled diacetyl volumes, exposure for smokers is still 1400% higher (likely much more) And it's far from the worst thing you inhale in cigarettes and not in vapes.

Our complaint about fair reporting saw five breaches of fairness, accuracy and balance standards by @NZStuff reporting on ASH last year. Described as “at the higher end of the spectrum of seriousness” & “falling well short of journalistic expectations”

We understand vaping, smoking and young people are emotive issues. We all want the same outcome, but we hope this ruling published by @BSA_NZ helps set a standard for fair and balanced reporting, and holding all sides to account.

If you read the latest from Otago's Hoek et al, you'd be left with the impression that the only people who support legalising snus are somehow tied to the tobacco industry. They keep forgetting that @ASHNZ2025 also argued for legalising safer alternatives like snus.

@ASHNZ2025 Yes, I said in previous response it was promising; unfortunately other trends in vaping among NZ young people are not. NB level of statistical significance assesses whether findings are likely due to chance, v large but less stat significant changes may be more important.
