The statistical requirement to claim that two groups differ is much higher than just showing that their means differ. This is such a complicated and counterintuitive thing for people to get, and I find few good lay explanations.

@rasmansa @olnool2 Need to account for course of study too. What about a student who takes hard courses and gets Bs vs. one who takes easy ones and gets As? UCs account for this to a certain extent (A-G requirements). Teacher's rigor varies so an A may not always = A. Need to address this.

@olnool2 That's not the fault of the students of that school, so they absolutely shouldn't be penalized for it. By the way, I mean within-school GPA rank percentile. So the top student at a "bad" school should rank above the second best student at a "great" school.
