🚦 Live at 10 AM: Ask a Traffic Cop! 🚦
What kind of magic will happen today? Well, obviously, Sean Shapiro (that’s me!) will be here answering your traffic and police questions. But will there be videos to review? A guest appearance? Honestly, I don’t know yet – you’ll just have to tune in and find out!
Ask a Traffic Cop is your go-to live show where we tackle the traffic questions you can’t find answers to anywhere else. From driving laws to road safety tips, I’m here to help – and if I don’t know, I’ll find out and get back to you.
Plus, stick around for a sneak peek at something exciting: Today at 1 PM, the first episode of Season 2 of Traffic Jam goes live on YouTube! It’s the first episode of 2025, and I’m chatting with Bill Bland and Craig Lyon about the Great Canadian Driving Games, where you could win $100,000 just by being a safe driver. I’ll give you a taste during the livestream and dive deep into it in the podcast episode.
See you at 10! #AskATrafficCop #TrafficSafety #TrafficJam #GreatCanadianDrivingGames #SafeDriving @diamond_lawyers @TrafficServices

Does automated enforcement piss you off? Tim wrote in saying it’s just a cash grab. But if it’s really just about money, why do they warn you twice before you even reach the camera? If they wanted your cash that badly, wouldn’t they just take it without warning? And if you ignore the signs and still speed in a Community Safety Zone, do you really deserve to keep your money?

I’m Sean Shapiro, a former police officer who talks about traffic safety, traffic law, and police stuff. Follow me and join me LIVE Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. for Ask a Traffic Cop. I also go late-night live some Tuesdays and Thursdays. See you there!

🚔 Can Police Lay Charges Based on Dash Cam Footage? 🚔
You’ve got a dash cam, you’ve captured some wild driving, and now you’re wondering—why can’t police just issue a ticket based on your footage? Well, it’s complicated.
For police to lay charges based on dash cam video, we need:
✅ The date, time, and location of the incident
✅ The driver’s identity
✅ The vehicle’s identity
✅ The dash cam owner to testify on how the footage was captured
That last part is key—unlike automated enforcement (red light cameras, speed cameras, school bus cameras, and TTC cameras), which issue charges to the vehicle owner under specific new HTA laws, regular traffic offenses require evidence that proves who was driving. And without a willing witness (the dash cam owner), the case falls apart in court.
While we’d love to hold every reckless driver accountable, the reality is that dash cam footage alone often isn’t enough.
🎥 Got traffic questions? Join me LIVE on #ASKaTrafficCOP every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 AM ET, where I answer your questions in real time!

🚨 Can You LEGALLY Drive 5-10 km Over the Speed Limit? 🚨
A viewer asked if they could legally drive 5-10 km/h over the posted speed limit. Sean’s answer? No. The speed limit is just that—the maximum speed you’re legally allowed to travel. Anything over is speeding, and speeding is illegal.
But will you actually get a ticket for going 5 km/h over? You could. That said, officers typically focus on drivers going much faster. That doesn’t make it legal, though, and any ticket can impact your driving record and insurance.
📢 #AskATrafficCop goes LIVE Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 AM to answer your traffic and police questions. Follow for more! 🚗💨 #TrafficLaw #Speeding #DrivingTips #RoadSafety @diamond_lawyers

Which car at @AutoShowCanada screams “ex-cop” the loudest? 🚔👀
• Blacked-out Tahoe with steelies?
• Dodge Charger that just feels like it’s tailing you?
• A Crown Vic that refuses to retire (like some cops I know)?
I’ll be investigating at the show to find the official ex-cop vehicle of 2025. Got any guesses? Comment below!
📍 Come find me at the @TorontoPolice @TrafficServices booth at @AutoShowCanada!

I’m beyond grateful to this amazing community! Hitting this milestone brings back incredible memories of growing the @TorontoPolice @TrafficServices #TikTok presence—but now, I’m doing it in a whole new way.
Even though I’m no longer with the police, my passion for #TrafficLaw, #TrafficSafety, and all things policing hasn’t changed. I love that I can still connect with you all, answer questions, and help make the roads safer—just from a different seat.

Every vehicle with cameras needs this! I clean my cameras before entering my truck, but then I need a moist towelette for my finger or glove. This would be much classier. When was the last time you cleaned your backup camera? Have you ever cleaned your camera? Did you have cameras?

🚨 The Holidays Are Over—School’s Back in Session! 🚨
The Christmas break is officially in the rearview mirror, and that means school zones are buzzing again. Kids are back in class, and parents are back in that high-stakes game of “beat the clock” to get everyone where they need to go.
But here’s the deal: rushing doesn’t just raise your blood pressure—it raises the risk for everyone on the road. Let’s kick off 2025 on the right foot (or wheel):
🎯 Plan ahead – Leave early and give yourself some breathing room. No more frantic sprints to the car or white-knuckled drives.
🎯 Expect the unexpected – Kids crossing, buses stopping, and other drivers making last-minute decisions are all part of the morning mix. Stay sharp!
🎯 Make mornings better – With extra time, you can enjoy your drive instead of stress about it. Listen to your favorite podcast, sip your coffee, and start the day right.
Remember, no one should get hurt because you hit snooze one too many times or you’re rushing to make a good impression. Let’s all do our part to keep school zones safe and stress-free.
Drive safe and have an amazing start to 2025! 🚗✨
