Regarding the authority of the popes, which has been much in the news lately... Pope Gregory I (r. 590–604), known as Gregory the Great, condemned the use of "exalted titles" and "pompous" language as a sign of the Antichrist. He really did. He specifically criticized the title "Universal Bishop" (Episcopus Universalis), which he viewed as a supreme expression of pride. In the late 6th century, the Patriarch of Constantinople, John the Faster, had begun using the title "Ecumenical (Universal) Patriarch." Gregory was deeply offended, arguing that it was a "profane" and "blasphemous" title. He said that if one bishop is "universal," the office of all other bishops is diminished...and that anyone who exalts himself by seeking such a title is "the precursor of Antichrist" because they mimic the pride of the devil. When the same title was offered to him, Gregory refused it. Fast forward a few centuries. In 1302, Pope Boniface VIII in his papal bull titled "Unam Sanctam" declared an extreme form of papal spiritual supremacy that is still believed to this day: "Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff." Boniface was in a power struggle with King Philip IV of France. He used this decree to argue that "spiritual power" (the Pope) always ranks above "temporal power" (Kings). Word Games: Today, the Pope does not use "Universal Bishop" as a primary title, but the Code of Canon Law (the Church's legal system) describes his power in those exact terms. Canon 331: States the Pope has "supreme, full, immediate, and *universal* ordinary power in the Church." This is a distinction without a difference. If I had known all of these things, and the spirit of the gospel, I would not have become a Catholic at age 16. Not only these things, but about the sheer depth of the pederast scandal in the and how they have covered for it internationally (finding out through having sought a vocation as a nun both in the US and in Italy). I know some beautiful very Christian Catholics, but please do not try to tell me that I have an obstinate spirit. I am fulfilling my conscience to the best of my ability, and even Thomas Aquinas will tell you that you must obey your conscience!

Prosecutors had detailed in their opening statement how Horner covered up the interior camera after abducting 7-year-old Athena Strand, yet the audio continued to capture the approximately one-hour violent attack on the child, including her screams and struggle. Jurors will hear the recording as they weigh whether Horner receives the death penalty or life in prison without parole following his guilty plea.
