Remember the Chelyabinsk #meteorite, which landed in Russia in 2013? 💫🪐 Scientists from @Cambridge_Uni have been studying fractured phosphate minerals inside the meteorite in order to build a record of #asteroid collisions throughout our Solar System’s history.

The Chelyabinsk meteorite is used to demonstrate that shocked phosphates can record the collisional history of asteroid parent bodies @lithologuy @oshorttle @ma235camb @ana_cernok @ASprae nature.com/articles/s4324…

My new paper is out in Tectonophysics, we broke rocks at different speeds and looked to see if the size and shape of fragments could be used to characterise the strain rate at failure. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
