Jersey City's transitional aid application suggests the city will evaluate "automated enforcement" for parking violations to generate $$. In '25, the City Council contracted with Municipal Parking Services for a trial run of cameras, but for some reason, that didn't move forward.

To achieve a "structurally balanced" budget, Jersey City believes it will need $150M in transitional aid in '26, on top of a significant municipal tax increase, tighter controls on filling vacancies and increased revenues through greater enforcement: bit.ly/4sQEEpP

Anyone who wants to run for Jersey City council is insane. The Portside Towers people are intent on making your lives a living hell and making sure you will never get a moment of sleep. It's midnight, and this meeting might go 2 more hours because they're mad at the council.

Already looking ahead to next week for the Jersey City Council! The council is slated to hold public hearings for at least 2 controversial ordinances, one for bird-friendly design standards and another for a planned Franklin St bike lane. That means likely 20+ people per hearing.

808 Pavonia Ave. in Jersey City on 3/2/26: KRE had secured a tax abatement there for its planned 2 towers. In exchange, JC would be allotted 100,000 sf for Pompidou in the plans. With Pompidou now dead, the public givebacks will likely be affordable housing and community space.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs received Jersey City's estimated $100M+ transitional aid application on Friday, per a spox. I've requested a copy through the city and state, but it's not yet been provided. Councilmembers don't seem to have a copy yet either.

One observation from the Jersey City Council's public meetings this week is that none included dialogue with OEM and Public Works Director Greg Kierce on the city's second large snowstorm of '26. The council was briefed at length in open session before and after the first one.

Another fun fact: Despite the Jersey City Council previously voting in December to extend outgoing Councilman Dan Rivera's term on the JCRA board until June 30, Council President Denise Ridley, now the board chair, says it's "void" because Rivera was not reelected to the council.
