This week, @HoltomP, Head of UNIDIR’s Conventional Arms and Ammunition Programme, presented on the scope of the Arms Trade Treaty and its complementarity with other arms control instruments at the treaty’s Working Group on Effective Treaty Implementation.

At the #ATTCSP12 Working Group Meetings, PH 🇵🇭 supported strengthening implementation of ATT Article 7(4), noting importance of practical tools and reliable information for assessing risks related to gender-based violence or violence against women and children.

Today, together with @ATTSecretariat, we were pleased to launch the third phase of the EU-funded project to help States Parties to strengthen practical implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty, with focus on reporting, tailored assistance & information exchange on diversion.

Everything is ready for the start of the 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, taking place in Geneva from 16–19 March 2026 as part of the preparatory process for the 𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐂𝐒𝐏𝟏𝟐). Over the past weeks, the Secretariat has been working intensively to ensure that all arrangements are in place — from documentation 📄 and registration 📝 to coordination with Chairs, delegates, and stakeholders. These meetings are an important moment in the ATT cycle, where States Parties and observers come together to advance discussions on implementation ⚙️, transparency 🔎, and universalization 🌍. We are grateful to the Presidency of CSP12, facilitators and Chairs 👥, and all partners who contributed to making this week possible. We look forward to productive discussions and to continuing the collective effort to strengthen the effective implementation of the 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐲. Ahead of the Working Group meetings taking place in Geneva from 16–19 March, the @ATTSecretariat had the pleasure of hosting a briefing for Geneva-based delegates to provide an overview of the agenda and key issues to be discussed. We were very encouraged to see a room full with delegates, reflecting the strong engagement and commitment of States Parties and stakeholders to the work of the Treaty 🌍🤝 The exchange provided a useful opportunity to walk through the objectives of the upcoming meetings, highlight the main areas of discussion, and respond to questions from delegations in advance. Established under 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝟭𝟲(𝟯) 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗧𝗧, the VTF has supported States Parties since 2016 in strengthening Treaty implementation through practical, results-oriented projects. 📌 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 🔹 Practical guidance on how to apply to the VTF 🔹 Experiences and lessons learned shared by VTF recipient States 🌍 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Strengthening national capacity for responsible arms transfer controls remains essential for effective Treaty implementation. The VTF plays a key role in supporting States in advancing transparency, regulation, and good practices in line with ATT objectives. 🤝 We look forward to engaging with colleagues and partners committed to strengthening ATT implementation. 🎉🇪🇨 Congratulations to Ecuador on officially becoming the 118th State Party to the Arms Trade Treaty! Ecuador's accession marks a strong commitment to responsible international arms regulation🤝🌍 The @ATTSecretariat stands ready to support Ecuador in implementing the Treaty.

Welcome progress from Colombia 🇨🇴! A State Party since January 2025, Colombia has now submitted its initial report to the Arms Trade Treaty. 👏 And kudos to Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 for becoming the first State Party to submit an annual report on arms exports and imports for 2025. 🌍📄 We kindly remind States Parties that the deadline to submit annual reports is 31 May.
