The Public Safety Commission has once again proven they’re more interested in tearing down APD than supporting real solutions. This same commission has ridiculed and demoralized officers while also belittling APD leadership when they have made good faith efforts to improve transparency and answer questions. Their latest resolution continues to try and tell APD how to run the academy — while ignoring the reality that since they started targeting our department in 2020, staffing has collapsed, morale has plummeted, and Austin is less safe because of it. Instead of recognizing the daily good work our officers do — protecting lives, serving our community, and stepping up despite historic shortages — they’ve chosen to try to micromanage the department, continue their pursuit of defund the police era policies, impede officers ability to keep this city safe, and attempt to pile on more mandates and delays that make it harder to recruit and retain. It’s time to call this out for what it is: a grandstanding recommendation from a commission that has no law enforcement experience and no real grasp on the day-to-day realities of policing, telling our officers how to do their jobs, while ignoring that their own actions have gutted the department. The truth is simple: APD isn’t the problem. A commission that undermines the department at every turn is. If they want safer streets, they should stop crippling the very people sworn to protect them. This is the Anti-Public Safety Commission: A group who are not experts in policing, have never had to wear body armor to work to protect their city, have never done this job, and are trying to tell officers how to do theirs. This needs to stop! Let APD do their job, so we can return our city to being the safest big city in America. Read their resolution here: services.austintexas.gov/edims/document…

🚨 Travis County’s Broken Justice System Has Blood on Its Hands 🚨 Here’s the truth: this violent criminal should never have been free to walk our streets. His record tells the story of a justice system that bends over backwards to protect offenders while leaving victims and officers to pay the price. 🔹 2020–2024: Arrested for resisting arrest, evading police, deadly conduct with a firearm, meth possession, unauthorized vehicle use (stolen vehicle), and more. 🔹 Over and over again, charges dismissed, reduced, or flat-out declined by the County Attorney and District Attorney. 🔹 Even when armed and dangerous, prosecutors looked the other way. And what happened next? This repeat offender critically injured one person who may not survive, shot one of our officers, then broke into another Austinite’s home. This was preventable. It didn’t happen because of a lack of police work — it happened because our prosecutors refuse to hold criminals accountable. Every dismissed charge, every declined prosecution, every reduced sentence sent one clear message: crime has no consequences in Travis County. Now we’re burying victims and putting officers’ lives on the line. Enough is enough. The County Attorney and District Attorney must start putting public safety before politics. Until then, they own the consequences of their failures. #JusticeForVictims #AccountabilityNow #ProtectAustin

This morning, 35 cadets from the 154th Cadet Class participated in the traditional Chief’s Run that always takes place the day before they graduate from the rigorous 32-week training program. They were joined by Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, APD Assistant Chiefs and Executive Staff, Training Academy staff, the @ATXPOA, and fellow officers, as they ran in cadence from the south end of the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge to the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial on the Capitol grounds. They stood at attention as the names of each of APD’s 29 fallen officers were called out. Class 154 graduates tomorrow and we’re so excited to have them joining our department. If you have an interest in law enforcement and a heart to serve your community, please consider joining us! Help Tonka! One of our beloved APD members, a Great Dane named Tonka, is having to undergo emergency surgery today at Texas A&M. Tonka is part of the APD pet team that goes all around our department and community events to greet officers and Austinites! We love our pups and simple interactions with dogs like Tonka provides a much needed boost to officer wellness. Every bit helps so we can get Tonka healthy again! gofundme.com/f/tonkas-surge…

This is ridiculous. An activist justice of the peace blatantly violating the law and their authority to release individuals accused of heinous crimes such as murder, sexual assault of child, aggravated assault against a family member causing serious bodily injury, robbery, strangulation of a family member, felon in possession of a firearm and more. Where’s the justice in this? This empowers criminals and hurts victims. This is beyond despicable and what makes Travis County dangerous. Time for the State Commission on Judicial Conduct to open an investigation into Judge Jeffers. @GregAbbott_TX
KXAN News@KXAN_News

A newly-elected justice of the peace has reduced bonds in at least 123 felony cases since she started in January, KXAN found. No other Travis County JP has reduced felony bonds in that same time frame. kxan.com/investigations…
