Assistive Technology EPICS

The Colton Fishing Rod team delivered their automated fishing rod over the weekend! Colton will use it over the summer, and next Fall they will finalize the design. The Hippotherapy team also made progress this semester by integrating feedback from a potentiometer in the model.

Hippotherapy also had a successful Design Review. Partnered with Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center, their goal is to create a device to mimic the motion of a horse. They presented their proof of concept model and are modifying the code which moves the platforms.

The AT Team had a productive Mid-Term Design Review! Thank you design reviewers for your feedback. The Colton Fishing Rod Team (below) has developed a self-casting/reeling device and is currently improving the stand and simplifying the electrical components of their design.

The AT Team had a very successful Design Review practice session today! Good luck to everyone presenting tomorrow 😀

The Jackson Center Writing team attached the side grip to their XY Plotter! Their goal is to help children with cerebral palsy gain motor skills necessary for writing through their device.

❗️UPDATE: Our Jackson Center Writing Team made a working prototype to assist motor-challenged children and students who have difficulty gripping the pencils alone.

❗️UPDATE: Our Colton Fishing Team met virtually with Colton and family to discuss feedback and significant progress made in their assistive, self-casting, and self-reeling fishing rod! EPICS teams’ main focus is always the people our projects are for. 💛

❗️UPDATE: Colton Fishing Team made amazing progress as they tested out the automated casting system and reeling system all at once. Watch the design launch outside ARMS and finally come together!

❗️UPDATE: Our Hippotherapy team is working hard to with Therapeion Center to provide therapeutic riding services for people with disabilities. They are designing an electro-mechanical device that simulates an actual horse’s movement!

❗️UPDATE: Our Jackson Writing Center Team is making great progress and has created a new PCB for the Auto Scribe Project! The Jackson Writing Team works with children who have motor disabilities and want to aid them in writing ✍️

We're back for the spring semester! Ever wonder how a rocket launcher fishing rod works? Our Colton fishing team made good progress in the past weeks as they took the rod apart and figured out what each part does!
