Ray Curnow was the backbone of the Bays from 1931-1972. 88 games as a player, coach for 5 years, and then club secretary which meant doing everything. The club foyer is righty named in his honour.

In 1999 Richard Kelly helped the Bays into the finals and won the Best & Fairest ... enough to be knighted by ABC commentators. 48 games 7 goals.

Although property steward George Brown never played a game for the Bays, his tackle on North Adelaide's Jack Sutter in 1968 is legend. The dispute was over which ball to replace one that was lost in the crowd - Rooster Red or Glenelg Gold.

Rex 'Noddy' Voigt could have had 9 goals in the 1973 Grand Final - hit the post once and still questions one called touched on the line. He had to be satisfied with these 7.

Ken Smith having his beak tweaked by South's Peter Mahoney at the Bay in 1969. Smith played 75 games in four seasons. Old school half-back who never gave an inch or kicked a goal.

In 1955 Charles 'Chooka' May was appointed coach of the Bays. Thought to be the first full-time SANFL coach, his role included working with schoolboys 5 days per week. He lifted Glenelg off the bottom & in 1956 was pitted against his son Wally May who was captain-coach of Sturt.

Matthew Bode barely filled out the famous #10 guernsey as a 20-year-old in 1999 - his second year at the Bay. Played 87 games with 98 goals in between a 108-game AFL career. @CarltonFC

Josh Scott broke his arm twice during the 2019 season and so managed only 10 games. He returned in time to boot three goals in the preliminary final and another three in the premiership win... in what was his final match with the Bays. 90 games 151 goals.

Round 16 1950 at Glenelg Oval - Arthur Hannaford goaled in the dying minutes to give the Bays a 5-point win over North Adelaide and a place in the finals for the first time since 1934. Known mostly as a defender, Hannaford kicked just 15 goals in 129 games. 1937-51

Mick Fitzgerald was recruited from Port Noarlunga. Neatly averaged one goal per game - 27 of each. 1967-70 @FitzySA

As a back pocket, Dick Bone stood the resting rovers including Jack Oatey & Fos Williams. 'The main thing is to watch the ball - I would feel where they were rather than look at them - once you looked away from the ball you were gone.' 1952-58, 72 games. Vale

Round 19, 1964 at the Bay. Neil Sutherland uses John Long as a step ladder to take the mark of the day. Sutherland 50 games 34 goals Long 26 games, 4 goals

Ken Eustice was a textbook model for young players in the 1960s - came to the Bay for his final three league seasons and in 52 games was B/F, vice-captain and played in two grand finals.
