Farage has proven one thing today and one thing only - everything that he does is about one person. Nigel Farage. The people of Clacton do not need a media circus descending on their town over a busy tourist season because their MP has made a series of bad decisions. He should have declared that five million pounds. He knows it. We all know it. Now he is going to weaponise a by-election to distract from that. This is going to cost the taxpayer a fortune. A quarter of a million pounds. Eye-watering sums of money. Think about what that money could do for the people of Clacton. Will Farage fund it out of his own pocket? Because he bloody well should. This is making a mockery of our entire democratic process. He made bad decision after bad decision, and concealed money in a way that has spectacularly backfired. A by-election will not deflect from that fact, and nor should it. I will be making an announcement later today about Restore Britain’s plans for the Clacton by-election.

He Called The Judge A Racist. He Cannot Be Deported. He Is Being Released This Week. Shabir Ahmed orchestrated the rape of girls as young as twelve. For two years from early 2008 he and his gang plied them with alcohol and drugs, raped them in rooms above takeaway shops, and ferried them between flats where men paid cash to use them for sex. Police believe as many as fifty girls could have been his victims. Many came from chaotic backgrounds on council estates, precisely the children least likely to be believed and most likely to be failed. Judge Gerald Clifton, sentencing him to nineteen years, said his victims were treated as though they were worthless and beyond any respect because they were not part of the gang's community or religion. That is a finding from the bench. Greater Manchester Police said at the time there was no racial or cultural element to the crimes. A later report found there had been serious multiple failures by police and local authorities, who had been warned repeatedly and did nothing. At trial Ahmed called the judge a racist. He took his case to the ECHR, claiming he had not received a fair trial. The man Judge Clifton described as a violent, hypocritical bully reached for the language of victimhood and discrimination the moment the system tried to hold him accountable. He was stripped of his British citizenship in 2012. He retained his Pakistani citizenship. He is, by every formal measure, a foreign national convicted of organising the gang rape of children. He cannot be deported. The Immigration Act 1971 bars his removal because he arrived in Britain before 1973 and had lived here at least five years before deportation was considered. A fifty-three-year-old provision, written for a different country in a different era, now functions as a permanent shield for one of the most notorious child abusers in modern British history. He will be released from prison this week. He must live in supervised accommodation and remain within an exclusion zone around Rochdale. He must sign the sex offenders register for life. He will also be free. This is not the first time the same legal mechanism has protected men like him. Two other members of the same gang, Qari Abdul Rauf and Adil Khan, fought a separate, years-long legal battle that went to the Court of Appeal before they too were stripped of citizenship in 2022. Both invoked Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, the right to a private and family life, to resist deportation. The Home Office has not confirmed whether either man has actually left the country. Andy Burnham, who is days away from becoming Prime Minister, called on the previous government in 2022 to do everything within its power to deport members of grooming gangs. He will inherit a Home Office that has just told the victims of one of the most infamous gangs in the country that the man who organised their abuse cannot be removed. His own words from three years ago are now a test he cannot avoid. Either his government finds the legislative will to close a loophole that has been protecting child rapists from removal for half a century, or his statement was never meant to survive contact with power. Paul Waugh, the local MP, has said plainly that if the Citizenship Act needs to be amended, ministers should look at doing exactly that. That is the right instinct and the obvious next question. The law that is keeping Shabir Ahmed in this country was written in 1971. Nobody who wrote it was imagining a man who would call a judge racist for convicting him of raping children. The law has had fifty-three years to be fixed. It has not been. The girls who were twelve in 2008 are now adults who have been told, once again, that the system built to protect them cannot do the one thing they are asking of it.
