Stop calling it the Protestant “reformation” it reformed nothing. The true reformation happened within the Church and was led by faithful Catholics many of whom are Saints. A more fitting term is the Protestant revolt.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image..." (Exodus 20:4) A lot of folks quote the 2nd Commandment to knock Orthodox icons. But let's look at what the Old Testament actually says — and how the Church has always understood it. The full verse ties the ban to worship: "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them." God wasn't banning all images — He commanded golden cherubim on the Ark (Exodus 25:18-22), embroidered angels in the Tabernacle, and even the bronze serpent (Numbers 21). The sin is idolatry — carving something and calling it god. Orthodox Christians don't worship icons. We venerate them (honor the saint or Christ they point to), just like you'd kiss a photo of your mama. The honor passes to the person depicted. God is the God of the living, not dead. And here's the game-changer: the Incarnation. God took on flesh in Jesus Christ (John 1:14). We can depict the One who became visible. Icons aren't "graven images" — they're windows to heaven that lift our hearts to the real God. The 7th Ecumenical Council (787 AD) confirmed this ancient practice. Icons have been part of Christian worship from the beginning. So no, Orthodoxy isn't breaking the Old Testament. We're living it in light of Christ.

What about Cornelius bowing to Peter, Also- what about in Galatians - Paul says that anyone who adds to this Gospel is accused. Paul didn’t venerate icons. Later the Orthodox Catholic Church give anathemas to anyone who doesn’t venerate icons. Which is adding to the Gospel. Saying if you don’t do a certain thing that wasn’t taught by the apostles to be saved, is literally adding to the Gospel. How do Orthodox respond to this?
