Insane how the English, whether it’s in Britain, America, Australia, are the only people on earth who consistently make good music. No one else is even close

@LeRelaxingEnd @btharris93 How on Earth is a country in Northern Europe that colonized most of the globe already "entitled to its share of Antarctica"? You guys are seriously looney tunes

@AVLJazzRadio @btharris93 The Argies have no real rights to the other South Atlantic islands anyway. So we're entitled to our share of Antarctica come what may.

If the situation were reversed and Argentina controlled the Channel Islands for hundreds of years and Britain was trying to take it under the most dubious of pretexts, people like you would be calling for full-on military action to stop British imperialism.

The Falklands question is so weird. You’re liable to be lynched by the English en masse if you even suggest that it’s silly for them to be so ravenous about defending their colonisation of the territory.

I dunno... if the military junta of Argentina decided to give Maggie Thatcher £5 for the Malvinas, then the Malvinas would be Argentinian. I think Argentina needs several generations of *not* electing Milei's, after being worse anti-socialist psycho killers than...... Thatcher.
Jeff Conibear 🇵🇸@JefJC

UK sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands is nothing more than a relic of the imperial period, and the facts do not change on account of how despicable the government in Buenos Aires may be.

@SikhFeminist Fun facts: Argentina recognized an independent Palestine in 2010, a decade before Spain did. Support for Israel in Argentina hovers around 25%. They elected a first-generation Muslim Syrian president twice. There are more mosques in Argentina than anywhere else in LatAm.

@LeRelaxingEnd @btharris93 Those are the reasons they are there. That they were willing to give them up at one point given how many such outposts of theirs dot the globe hardly contradicts this. They gave up many such bases when the empire was dismantled.

@hashjenni Argentina, a powerless third-world country that hasn't bombed or invaded anyone since the Falklands War and recognized an independent Palestine in 2010? The country whose soccer jerseys can be found on the backs of kids in every developing country? Lol what are you smoking

@McBidens "Who was in Israel first actually doesn't matter. The people who live there now shouldn't have to leave because of the sins of their ancestors and should have a say and that's all that really matters." Listen to yourself.

@LeRelaxingEnd @btharris93 Lol I'm sure it's to protect the islanders' "way of life" and not to have a military foothold and control of natural resources in the South Atlantic 🙄

@AVLJazzRadio @btharris93 Because Argies who invade (whilst negotiations were still going on years before) can't be trusted to respect the way of life of the islanders, so we'll defend them as the Islanders so wish. The day they don't want us to, we'll withdraw from the Falklands. Of course you're baffled

My timeline is polluted with people arguing about the Falklands, but the much more interesting European island colony off the coast of the Americas is St. Pierre and Miquelon, a French territory a mere *twelve miles* off the coast of Canada

I get why other Latin American countries have beef with Argentina. Argentine pride can come off as arrogance & there is an obnoxious minority that considers itself more "European" than "Latino." What I do not get is Europeans or Americans calling it racist/imperialist/Nazi

@Hyza87 @FakeMartyr Not sure if you're being purposely dense or not. Of course the situations aren't analagous for a million reasons, but regardless of the situation, arguing that one side doesn't have the leverage to take something is not the same as arguing they don't have a right to it

@AVLJazzRadio @FakeMartyr You can't apply falkland logic to Israel/Palestine because it has been populated and controlled by various groups for millenia. Several groups have been in control for centuries at a time. Falkland was an empty rock when the modern steam engine was invented

Let's be clear about something. The Falkland Islands are British because the population living there wants to be British citizens but just as importantly. Argentina has no way to take them back. Argentina couldn't conquer a wet paper bag if it tried to. I don't feel bad for them:
Politics Global@PolitlcsGlobal

🚨🇫🇰 PICTURED: Argentina’s players hold up a sign saying “Las Malvinas” are Argentine This is factually inaccurate, as the Malvinas, officially named the Falkland Islands, are British

@Hyza87 @FakeMartyr Again, apply this same logic to Israel/Palestine and see where it gets you. Personally I think Argentina shoukd forget about the islands, but not having the leverage to take something is not the same as not having a right to it.

@AVLJazzRadio @FakeMartyr His logic is that even IF Argentina had a real claim, since the UK does not want to give them away, Argentina would have to employ military, financial, or political pressure to take it. Argentina has no leverage whatsoever.

@swinnybottom @FakeMartyr The UK government was on the verge of letting Argentina have the islands until the junta blundered into invading them. Why would they even think to give away sovereign territory like that? History is muddled and full of gray areas.

@AVLJazzRadio No one said they were but I asked for examples of British imperialism against Argentina, which the napoleonic wars are not, further to which almost noone in the UK is pressed about the Falklands it’s the Argentinians that seem to have an issue

@antonerable It's not like the people who lived there were suddenly replaced when the country became independent, so yeah. I don't get why either side is so hung on some rocks in the middle of the ocean but especially the UK which controlled half the world at one point. Who gives a shit?
