Curtin sadly passed while in office, but remains one of the Australian labour movement's most influential and inspiring leaders. His tombstone reads: "His country was his pride His brother man his cause."

But before he was elected to politics, Curtin was a committed unionist. He was the State Secretary of the Timberworkers' Union from 1911-1915, an AWU organiser in 1916, and editor of the Westralian Worker from 1917-1928.

From 2027, gas producers will have to set aside 15-25% of their gas for Australian manufacturers, workers and households before they can export it overseas. Thank you to every member who has supported the campaign. Because it's Australia's gas, so let's reserve some for us!

For over a decade, we called for a gas reservation that does just that. Finally, someone has listened. ‘Australian gas for Australians’ is now government policy.

Major gas companies have made billions from Australian gas while local manufacturers are pushed to the brink. When we asked AWU members why it's time to Reserve Our Gas, they told us we must put Australians first.

Thank you to our AWU members in skydiving, theme parks, water parks, pools, zoos, arcades, and everywhere Australians love to have fun! This is the busiest time of year for our members, so if you are out at an entertainment venue, please be respectful to the operations staff.

Now, after a decade-long campaign, the Federal Labor Government has finally made it happen. From 2027, gas exporters will be made to reserve 15-25% of their gas for Australian manufacturers and households. Thank you to all the members who supported the fight to Reserve Our Gas!

Gas doesn't just power Australian manufacturing - it also helps put food on countless workers’ tables. When we asked our members what a gas reservation would mean to them, one food production worker explained that rising gas prices have put their site at risk of closure.

This week, the Federal Government made it happen, and announced an east coast gas reservation - providing certainty to manufacturers and job security for tens of thousands of workers. To every member that supported us in our decade-long fight to Reserve Our Gas, thank you.

We asked our members why they supported a gas reservation, and one oil and gas worker in the NT said: “As the saying goes, ‘A society thrives when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.’ This is about doing what's right for the next generation.
