My heart goes out to Tucson today. It is a tragedy that this community is once again being forced to face the pain and destruction caused by a mass shooting. The despair in this moment feels all too familiar but as we wait for more information, I am grateful for the first responders who step up everyday to serve our state in times of crisis.

Despite the President’s claims, there are not millions of ineligible voters, and if there were: the County Recorders and myself would make sure they were removed from the voter rolls and prosecuted. Keeping elections in Arizona safe, secure, and accessible is the goal of all election officials.

In a few hours, Donald Trump will once again use his power to sow fear and doubt about our elections. His grievances will be nothing new—don’t fall for it. We know our elections are safe, secure, and accessible. It is paramount that we stand up for and protect the integrity and reputation of every election official that works overtime to administer our elections.

Yesterday, I had the honor of joining @America250AZ and the @Suns to fill out Dear America, Love Arizona with children receiving treatments at @PhxChildrens. I’m so thankful that we were able to bring this unique experience to kids who wouldn’t have had the opportunity in a traditional school setting.

If the US Department of Justice was actually worried about our elections, they would work with us, not threaten us with criminal prosecution. With or without federal help, I will continue to ensure our counties have what they need to run elections.
