@A_M_C_A @pushpendrakum I agree, getting a temporary visa expecting a guarantee of permanent stay does show a stupidity and lack of knowledge.

I hope this post will clear your US green card confusion if you’re living there on a temporary visa and want a green card, you must leave the country and apply from home. Even if you’re married to an American citizen. Even if your children were born there. Even if you’ve been there legally for years. Just comot first. We go process am after. Half a million people go through this every year. Now, most of them will have to do it from outside the US.

You chose to get married to an American citizen while on a temporary visa. You chose to have children in the US while on a temporary visa. You chose to come here on a temporary visa for a temporary amount of time. You chose not to go through the permanent visa process before starting a permanent life. Now you will have to go back and ask permission to be in the US permanently before actually staying here permanently.

This new policy will force thousands of LEGAL immigrants, including spouses of US citizens, to leave their homes, families, and jobs for weeks or even months to get their green card outside the U.S. This is an absurd and cruel policy.

@MataDoorAhh @HunterWieman mmm… I am unsure where are you getting those timelines from but as a person who married a USA citizen (while being on a work visa) and then requesting the change of status, it took us near 2 years until I got my green-card on the mail. The processing times are in Uscis webpage

@HunterWieman This has been happening for years 😭😭 why are people complaining. My aunt went back a couple months ago. It only took her 2-4 weeks to get back. Same with my best friend, he got married and had to go back to Mexico for 3 weeks.

So if I marry someone who is here on a student visa, they have to go home and wait for a green card!?
