@TateHackert Living on the Prairies there's a ton of abandoned houses and some ghost towns. I often drive past those buildings and think about how people were born, grew up, lived life there and now they're just empty.

Went to a ghost town yesterday. In 1905, it had 1000 people. In 1910, 150. In 1940, 0. It's kinda crazy how history puts things into perspective. The first thought that came to mind was, "San Francisco COULD disappear, others before it have"

@TateHackert This is still one of my favorite pieces of ZayZoon lore.

In 2016 ZayZoon was early days but somehow secured a deal with Uber to provide their drivers with on-demand pay. On one of my first calls with the Uber team, I was shirtless, in my boxers, laying on my bed. Camera was on, audio was off. I thought I was in preview mode still. It wasn't until after the call that my co-worker called me up and said, "hey, I was audio only for that call, but did you hear them talking at the beginning? Sounds like one of their team members was shirtless?? lol" I was horrified, but when I told my co-worker that "one of their team members" was actually me, we laughed pretty hard.

@TateHackert I was working a summer job for Agriculture Canada when Phoenix was first installed. It was wild.

Payroll ain't easy.... but it also isn't that hard. The Phoenix pay system in Canada has been an 8 year, $2 BILLION dollar fiasco. Good on SF for calling it so soon.

But I'm Long Calgary for the future of tech. - it's taken time, but the same grit that made us a world leader in Oil and Gas is forming in tech - fastest growing province in Canada - Calgary expects ~3X more gdp growth than US in 2024 - increasingly better airport option than anywhere else - top 10 livable place in the world according to Economist - 3X less price per square foot compared to Toronto for a condo - companies like PurposeMed, Neo, and ZayZoon have chosen Calgary as home.

Moved into a new office 1 week ago. A lot of cool shit happened this year. Walking around the empty office today was a good way to kickoff the end of year reflecting.
