She's gonna absolutely wither from the criticism of a Free Church of England bishop, the denomination that's 180+ years old but only has 18 parishes (or 21, depending on how you count them) and, therefore, has about 1 bishop for every 6 churches. They're clearly truth's bulwark🥱

@MadisonPierce I used to work with a priest who went by "Mo. FirstName" but once expressed her agitation that many people called her "Ms. FirstName." I said something like "oh that's just a southernism" but she pointed out that nobody ever called the male priest "Mr." That's stuck with me

Last thing: I don't request my title be used in educational settings because I think I "deserve" it. It provides a reminder that, there, I have a different role and delegated authority related to the subject matter (like "your honor" in a courtroom). Here's a few stories...

@MadisonPierce Dr. Katie Cannon made a point like this in her Intro to Ethics class, reminding us, that even though the institutional culture was more-or-less to just use first names, in practice this applied much more to women/minority scholars than to their white, male peers

@thescottbarber Wasn't he ordained by a house church HE planted? That's like one or two steps removed from the sedevacanist guy whose own family elected him pope. He's also been deceptive (or lied, depending on how generous you wanna be) about his educational credentials. Grasping for legitimacy

As of yesterday I am now Vicar (Intern) at my church as a part of my ordination process! This is in addition to still being Fellowship Engagement Director & Theologian-in-Residence (and teaching undergrads on the side, and auditing Lutheran studies classes, and so on) 😅

@DanielWHouck I seem to only see it when the algorithm gets fed its dose of viral back-and-forths that don't really go anywhere (e.g., recent atonement spats). I think it's also related to most of the stuff from folks I follow getting locked behind "Following" and seldom being on "For You"

Some members of UMC ecumenical partners have been uneasy about their move to allow deacons to celebrate the Eucharist. However, what I didn't know until just now is that this has been the standard Moravian practice (albeit for different reasons) for ages! moravian.org/2018/07/orders…
