@thisisgrantlee Great point, and one that is wildly under-discussed right now (though it came up on a recent @ezraklein episode). While I have you, check your DMs or replies sir.

Law firms are cutting paralegal intake. Consulting firms and investment banks are trimming their analyst programs. Tech companies are eliminating roles across the board, while removing many entry-level jobs. Each decision looks rational as a line item. The entry-level role costs money. The AI costs less. Sounds logical. But nobody walks into a company on day one knowing how to do the job. They learn by spending years doing tedious, low-stakes work. An entry-level employee who starts by answering customer support tickets learns more than product specs. They learn which features users actually care about, what language customers use to describe problems, and which pain points lead to churn versus ones that are simply noise. That intuition comes from resolving thousands of frustrated messages and figuring out what the user really meant. Most good decisions require judgment, and judgment comes from experience, including the experience of making bad decisions. Companies cutting junior programs today will need senior talent in 2030. When they go looking for it, they will find that every competitor made the same cuts and is searching for the same people. A cohort that was never developed cannot be hired. The businesses still running analyst classes, associate programs, and junior design rotations right now are making a bet that will look obvious in retrospect. They are building institutional memory while competitors outsource it to tools that have none. Every expert a company will ever need was once a beginner who needed somewhere to start. Give them somewhere to start:

Everyone raves about @maticrobots so I buy one, it won’t connect, and when you search their docs for help, there’s almost nothing there. 😬

One example of Claude Code for knowledge work: I wanted the transcript from the Odd Lots pod so I fired up Tailscale and Termius, got to a box in my house with my Obsidian setup and gave it a YouTube link which I asked it to download and transcribe. All while plane was deicing.

I said, "recreate this icon" (which was created by GPT image 1 model)... Look at how bad this is. I wanna go back!

The new @OpenAI image model is noticeably worse for me on icon development, particularly in 3d styles - feels like time machine to one year ago

Every time I get a day off, someone tweets about something that's fundamentally wrong in how they think you should build with AI and I feel compelled to write a counter-post...and as a result I end up working. 🤪

@HarryStebbings Isn’t it your job to get something different out of them? Like, ask them questions no one else will… Any interview is an exclusive if it reveals new truth.

The minute I see someone doing a podcast tour I cancel the episode we have with them. Not arrogant just have zero patience for people parroting the same message.

I'm looking for a word for "get it-ness." Something to describe that sense you get of a person that "gets it." Usually immediately apparent. contenders that are close but not quite it: awake. in the details/close to the metal. high-agency.

The Domino’s pizza tracker is still better UX than any new experience AI has unlocked.
