Zeynep's new New York Times piece on lab leak is unreal. She acknowledges that lab leak was probably the origin of SARS-CoV-2, but still she manages to demonize the people who pointed this out, suggesting that they did it in the WRONG WAY, and thus, it was reasonable to lie about it in response. Yes, that's right. It's not the fault of public health officials that they covered up COVID's origins. Rather, it's the fault of those who told the truth about it. These poor widdle pubwic heawth officials: they had no choice but to deny accountability in the face of harsh criticism. Who wouldn't?! Their feelings were hurt! They had to! We can see Zeynep's strategy here. She gets to be the the GOOD truth-teller, with her friends in the establishment as GOOD liars, while all of her opponents remain BAD truth-tellers because they didn't do their truth-telling in the NEW YORK TIMES or perhaps because their tweets were TOO MEAN. Unbelievable. Let me tell you something: nobody cares more about science than the people who sacrificed their professional reputations to tell the truth about COVID-19. And without whose hard investigative work, I should mention, Zeynep might never have written this article. All of this just fills me with sourness and disgust. In all the terrible articles about COVID-19 that I've read by Zeynep Tufekci, this one was the nastiest and worst.

So....12,428,110 people over the age of 120 are receiving SS payments, but the oldest living person in America is 114. A low avg of $1500/month/person paid in SS & multiply it by that number, you get $18.6 BILLION/MONTH to people who don't exist? Or, $223.2 Billion per year? 🤬

@ImUrChucklberry For the average it seems reasonable to assume the 120 year olds in the system started participating in or around the 1960s when average benefits were <$100/mo. If they were at $100 when COLA adjustments began, they'd still be under $1,000 per month today. HUGE numbers regardless.

@AaronONU The average social Security payment per month is around $1,768. I went low at $1,500. $1,500 per month * 12 million gives you the monthly number.
