In today's NHL where cap space is rising rapidly, few players make it to free agency, and more expansion teams are on the horizon: yes, it's better to overpay to keep talent than lose it.
Cap space is worthless if there's nobody to spend it on. I'd pay $20M to get KK in Detroit.

I get that Middleton had a bad series, but this goal isn't his fault. He was blocking the pass to the play in the slot. At that point you rely on your goalie to take the shot away on the short side, which Wally absolutely did. It was just an unreal shot

@mnhshockeytalk You don’t get (and keep?) a Quinn Hughes without Kap on this roster. We already have a bunch of guys that are similar to what you’d get at $4 mill per. None of them are capable of playing in the top 6 on a championship level team. Easier to find cheap risers than stars.

Still stand by my statement I would rather pay 4 guys x 4 mil vs Kiril 16. 1 guy doesn't win you Championships as we saw this year. Especially when that 1 guy doesn't elevate his game.

Wild fans, we like to poke and prod each other. But not tonight. That was heartbreaking. This team went all in and put themselves in a spot to really contend. I loved the aggression.

I’m confused why so many are acting like this $104 million salary cap ceiling for next season is breaking news. This is the exact figure we have known about since Jan. 2025 when the NHL and NHLPA announced 3 years of escalating caps ($95.5 to $104 in 26-27 to $113.5 in 27-28)
