Bryan Mbeumo to Man United is as close to a sure-thing signing as you’ll get. PL-proven, physical, smart — and fits exactly what Amorim wants from his #10s. Let’s break down: 🔺Some of his goals from last season 🔺Why he’s a natural fit in Amorim’s system 🔴THREAD🔴

Arteta starting Havertz and Gyökeres shows that he wants to physically dominate City Eze out + no Madueke shows he won’t risk losing this game via duels or work rate Still feels like that Etihad loss in 22/23 lingers. Arsenal were bullied that night and it hasn’t been forgotten

Arsenal have to find Saka in these moments. But they also need to move the ball quicker laterally to maximise the gaps they can play through. Too safe at times. Putting the foot on the ball only works when the opposition are eager to press.

Cunha’s goal vs Villa is a microcosm of why they can’t compete for league titles. A 4-4-2 mid-block without reliable pressure on the ball Mbeumo’s run forces the Villa line to drop, opening space for Cunha’s 3rd man run Give Bruno time here……then you get what you deserve. 🔴

I think we’ll see the most effective Eberechi Eze in the latter stages of the UCL for Arsenal When teams go toe to toe, those transition moments are where he thrives He is elite at drawing pressure and releasing runners, Jack Grealish-esque and his🔝 dribbling + ball striking🧠

PSG are a joy to watch. By far my favourite team to watch right now. I hope they win the UCL again. A team of superstars who respect the out-of-possession game as much as the in-possession game. The rotations, dribbling, pressing and wonder goals….. wow. 👏🏼👏🏼

I could be totally off with this comparison, but Valverde has always given me Steven Gerrard vibes. Leader Elite ball striker Relentless engine Great passer Constant forward runs Tonight he looked like Gerrard under Benítez in 08/09 with that hat-trick. 🔝 player

Jørgensen was trying to find Palmer but his body shape is leaning back, making it a tight window with 2 PSG players closing. Leaning back = less power from a standing position. Even if Barcola doesn’t intercept it,Vitinha likely does Punished at the highest level because of the smallest details

That is such an idiotic challenge from Tillman. Brilliant from Madueke, but Leverkusen’s entire brilliant game plan goes out the window because of one silly decision to slide in there. Even if Madueke gets the shot off, trust your goalkeeper. He still had plenty to do.

The reason I can’t fully get on board with Arsenal winning the UCL is what happens when they go behind. Do they have the consistent open-play chance creation to score the goals needed to turn ties around? Outside of set pieces, they could struggle with this in Europe.

Easy to say now, but sacking Thomas Frank was a mistake. Spurs had huge injuries yet he still got them top 8 in Europe because he’s 🔝 at OOP coaching. His in-possession dynamics had issues, no doubt, but injuries played a big role in this. It’s still much better than this!

Full-backs are key for breaking down low blocks. 🔑 Shaw doesn’t do enough, even though he clearly has the ability. He should be getting far more crosses into the box. His physical capacity and injury record probably doesn’t allow it as much as it used to. Mazraoui is a back-up right back. Very technical in tight spaces but he lacks end product. Dalot… less said the better. Just nowhere near the level. Malacia is way off it. Just compare them to Arsenal full-backs, Man City full-backs, PSG full-backs. Teams that are elite at breaking down blocks. Their full-backs allow them to control games. Teams often try to lock off one side of the pitch, so if you have the quality to switch play out of the press, the weak-side full-back is usually in lots of space. The quality of your full-back in these situations dictates whether you pin the opposition back or not. Once you have pinned the opposition back it allows you to exert control. Then the final third underlapping and overlapping start to cause issues and pulls defensive blocks deeper and creates pockets of space for wingers to attack in the half space. Dalot, for example, underlaps but often only because he has to. There’s no real intent or speed to it. Teams read this easily and can jump out and double up on the winger. How many times do Cunha, Mbeumo or Amad receive the ball and they’re immediately faced with two or more defenders? They end up having to recycle possession. It’s not rocket science. It’s staring us in the face.

Everton, West Ham, Palace and now Newcastle in the 2nd half tonight Clear pattern emerging that United struggle against low blocks Outside of Bruno there is little happening. The lack of urgency and tempo in the 2nd half was alarming Newcastle had 61% possesion at one stage!

Van Dijk and Konaté have to deal with that situation. You can’t leave it in the referee’s hands. Yes, it was a foul but you still have to be stronger and manage the game. Great pass from Arokodare by the way.

United need more crosses into the box. Šeško’s goal, Casemiro’s disallowed goal and Zirkzee’s chance all came from that. Like Mainoo’s cross here. Deep half space cross with quality , so hard to defend. TAA made a living at Liverpool whipping these types of crosses in!
