"Materially compatible" means the fuel system materials (seals, hoses, gaskets, tank, injectors, etc.) in these Mercedes-Benz BS VI petrol vehicles are resistant to E20 fuel's 20% ethanol content. Ethanol can swell, crack, or corrode incompatible rubbers and plastics over time, but these cars are designed and certified not to suffer damage or reliability issues from it. They may see minor efficiency differences vs pure petrol, but no material harm. Mercedes stands behind this for their relevant models.

Read between the lines. The BS VI engines were introduced in 2018 in india by Mercedes Benz which means only vehicles from 2018 onwards are compatible. Also, being materially compatible does NOT mean the mileage or fuel consumption remains the same. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
